(1982)

Staying German but with a change of pace... this one is heavy rock / metal from Scorpions back in the 80s and very good it is too.

I'm really enjoying this new discovery, with lovely piano from John Taylor.

 Ibeyi - Vinyl

This is an interesting mix of chants, jazz and odd other bits of Cuban-ness. The instrumentation is quite sparse (percussion aside) with vocals well to the fore. It is an interesting paradox in some ways; some of the jazz elements offer a slick and more complex feel, there's the blend with more earthy rhythms, but there's a slight rawness to the production which makes it all very immediate. It's certainly hard to pigeon hole. As such I'd be cautious in some ways of giving the work a wholehearted recommendation unless I knew someone's tastes fairly well; but I love it! :

Bitchcraft by Bitchcraft (2013)

Very heavy stoner rock with dollops of metal driven doom edged fuzzy riffs and lovely female vocals. Not really like Black Sabbath (as they suggest) but you can feel their influence.

Taking a break from wallpaper stripping and having a listen to the excellent Clutching At Straws from Marillion. Full of atmosphere and a great recording.  flac via audirvana/hugo

An excellent album and reproduced in very high quality. Although the female lead vocals rightly get many plaudits, I also enjoy the piano which carries real weight.
