Don't have any recordings with a Tommy Flangan leading. It is time to get one.

Schubert Piano Sonata No.13 : Kempff 1967 recording.

Elegant. Infinitely more lyrical than Ashkenazy with air like tonal quality.

Even his forte is firm but polite. He's not a *bare all* out in open Richter but more even tempered throughout.

The slow movement is utterly beautiful creating a surreal solitary space with breathing quality. Finished off with gallant sunny Allegreto. Lovely. I think Kempff nailed the essence of this piece. ironic that he's the oldest to play 22 year old Schubert tune who wrote it for a 18 year old hottie.

Two different recording made in 1972. Vinyl is from Salzburg recording and the Praga Digitals' DSD remaster is a month later at Prague.

Both of these performances are extremely slow particularly Prague set.

Left hand trill is ever more sinister and runs deep into the bone. There is a longer pause as if someone is trying to gain a composure after an emotional outburst. Extremely inward yet drama unfolding as the tune develops. More temperamental and agitated compared to the most readings, wound up so tight the smallest thing can set him off into a rage.

Tone of piano is always on a cool side for Richer but so pure and unadulterated speaks directly especially on a long narrative haunting Andante. Scherzo enters in light and airy like fleet of angels coming down from the sky. Comparatively anyone else’s sound like unsophisticated and crude. The final movement starts off with a strong sustained chord which cuts through the atmosphere. Lighter feathery touch on keys on one had but then he does not hesitate pouring a bucket full of ice cold water with recurring of sustained G chords.

Richter was a natural choice for playing equally enigmatic Schubert’s last sonata.

Between the two performance, I prefer the Salzburg over Prague recording which I think he went overboard. i.e. Even more demonic left hand trills, more erratic jarring stops and breaking melody etc...

Music Matters vinyl is a second best thing to the mint original.

Siouxsie And The Banshees. Superstition. On CD from 1991. I'm revisiting some of my early CD purchases that I haven't listened to for a long while. This one was very good for its time and place, and still plays well today.

Not A Drop Of Rain

A bunch of trax.  She covers the Band, Springsteen, Paul Simon, Graham Nash, Stevie Wonder and Gerry Rafferty amongst others on this album.

PJ Harvey. Uh Huh Her. On CD from 2004. Two decades ago I enjoyed a couple of PJ's songs heard on the local alternative rock FM station. Picked this up on a whim recently for $2. Glad I didn't pay more, not my cup o' tea. It comes with 16 pages of fold-out liner notes if you happen to like mugshots of PJ. Does this woman ever smile

PJ is a genius. Why should she smile - she's not Taylor Swift.

A genius? Even Einstein smiled.

No doubt PJ is a successful artist. Said CD just didn't strike a chord with me

Try this one Joe - a cracking album and a lot more mainstream than most of her other work. It's the one i'm listening to now

(2014)

I have been really enjoying De Vriend and the Netherland Symphony Orchestra of late. The hybrid SACDs of Mendelssohn and Beethoven's complete symphonies in particular sound really fine to me and extremely engaging. The NSO has become particularly notable for its use of period instruments in the brass section, and has consequently developed its own distinctive sound as regards 18th and 19th century repertoire.

In this case I was using a mobile streaming service of Qobuz, sometimes use this to listen into albums before I buy them.

I see. Qobuz is not available in CZE. I like the design of screen and also info about 16bit. I would like to have it in Naim app

I think you misunderstand it. This is just playing on my IPad has nothing to do with my Naim setup. As of right now the only integration with Naim is Spotify services. I personally have multiple ways of exploring listening to music.

1. Streaming NAS via NDS

2. Streaming NAS via Muso

3. Streaming Qobuz via IPad or Iphone

4. Streaming from memory, disk, NAS, Qobuz via Sony NW-ZX2

In an older jazz mood this morning, so a very well known album...

Santana III. I think it might be their best album.
