Lovely stuff as usual from Toby Marks, classic electronica, surely no need to give a reason for giving it another whirl?
The two piano concertos are often regarded as throwaway technical fodder, a bit like Paganini's violin concertos, but for piano. That there is much more to them, a subtle Zimerman showed in this recording with Ozawa. But even Zimerman didn't reach as deep as Kantorow father and son do on this recent release from Bis. It's hard to imagine these works better played than on this occasion - and in outstanding sound quality too (as typical for the company, the recording was taped at fairly low level, so requires a volume boost).

Still enjoying the experience of a 'whole new record collection' following the rebuild of my turntable in May (I have a large record collection and not much spare time, so it'll take quite some time), but right now I'm enjoying Fragile by Yes. What a brilliant line up this was!
Rudolf Serkin: Schubert Piano Sonata D960 1975 recording
Not emotionally charged, he’s just skimming the surface not going deep to explore the tune. It just does not feel like a confession of the composer who no longer feels part of *this* world. More like Serkin himself is detached from the tune. Extremely stiff 1st movement.
An awful lot of sound coming from a 3 piece ensemble on this recording. Even though I like when he has a guitar in his band, this ends up being one of his that I go back to repeatedly - the version of Another World is incredible with the bass solo by Graham Maby.

EJ, thanks for your review here. I have to wait three more days before this is released where I live and I can't wait to get this. I didn't actually look closely before and didn't connect that Alexandre is Jean-Jacques' son. I don't have very many recordings of the dad but my favourite certainly is the movie soundtrack to Un Coeur en Hiver (A Heart In Winter) with the music of Ravel. Hard to beat that one for me.
Of course, the music of Liszt is certainly very important to me and I couldn't imagine a world without it so for me it is hard to digest what could possibly be the reason for those who don't like this music.
Thanks again EJ for highlighting this album,
Doug
Been playing something I am familiar with on a passive PMS.
(1967)
Psych pop from the sixties.
..back to normal patterns - breakfast piano....
Pink Floyd. Obscured By Clouds (1972). On the Capitol Records CD from 1987. Another of my recent s/h CD diggings and my first exposure to this film soundtrack. Interesting to listen to this as the album between Meddle and DSOTM. Musically its very involving and my only regret is that most of the songs simply fade-out, as I wish they'd continue longer.

Jimi Hendrix. Blues. On CD from 1994. I picked up this s/h CD for a pittance, first listen and WOW! Blues to be sure. I had secured an order for this on 2LP months back and the vendor (a large bookstore with B&N initials) failed to deliver. I'm now seeking the vinyl from a more reliable supplier.
Starting the day with some mellow music courtesy of Richard Hawley.
Time for some ZZT, CD rip:-
ZZ Top - Tejas
A J.N. recommendation and stonkingly wonderful! Can't stop playing it. Ripped CD :-
The late great Gavin Clark a sad loss.
Vinyl
On CD:-
Keep on returning to this one, if I want to listen to some beautiful quiet and reflective music
On vinyl.
One day Matt they may release the rest of the music recorded over those 3 nights as some of it is exceptional.
Just confirms what I have always thought that Derek is one helluva guitarist. Never the same set was played each night.

Great stuff from MMEB it was the first album I had heard by them when I picked it up in a Cairo market when I lived there. It's sounding far better tonight than that 'knocked off' version on cassette tape 36 years ago!
