Streaming wav  Crowded House form 2007 and surprisingly good, not quite up there with Alone But Never Alone but still well worth a listen as it slowly grows.

In honor of the new record which is going to come out...

Charles Koechlin, yet another nearly forgotten composer from France (the French apparently love to forget their composers). I have a few discs of his music, mostly orchestral, but this is a fairly recent recording of a selection of his chamber music, in mixed settings. Very good, accessible modern-ish classical music.

David Sanborn Band: Promise me the Moon 1977 release.

Smooth jazz funk so popular back in the mid to late 70s with familiar Sanborn sound of sax.

He was everywhere.

Buddy Holly. From The Original Master Tapes. 2LPs on the MCA rainbow label from 1985. A s/h buy in near mint condition, cover and vinyl. I have a variety of BH all analog albums, and wondered what the original masters transferred to digital and onto vinyl might sound like, Steve Hoffman at the helm. I'm pleasantly surprised. Clean and fresh with subtle positive changes to the tonal balance, and no tape hiss. It's really very good, though I suspect Holly 'purists' might beg to differ.

The Drifters. All-time Greatest Hits. On Flashback CD from 2000. Ten warm and wonderful tunes that will transport you to a bygone era. Highly recommended if you're into music of the period.

(1971) First release

This expanded remaster from 2009 is a mix of studio album (their 5th) and two live session bonus tracks from a 1970 BBC Radio 1 session. This still sounds very good even today.

"He was everywhere", you are right Kuma, even I bought an album or two of his (neither titles of which I can recall), thanks for giving me the memory back he is one of those who had slipped out of it.

Porcupine Tree, The Incident on CD. The more I listen to them and Steven Wilson's solo stuff, the more I like it.

This really was a great live concert recorded at Newcastle City Hall in '71, a studio version of the gig was mooted but never happened.

Many a year since I have listened to Déjà Vu, I wonder now why I have left it so long, perhaps overkill and over familiarity at the time... Sounding very good indeed ripped from this Joe Gastwirt  remastered CD [1994] from the original master tapes. Sporting the brown album cover it arrived through the post a couple of days ago.

Tried two classical music options, but wasn't in fact in the mood for active listening, so this fits nicely, this is by the way not in any format a negative remark...

About the music...

Bert, I like your phrase "active listening" it's a very apt description of one form of listening, so  it's probably a one that I am going to borrow occasionally.

At the time this was my favourite album from JB.
