It's always good to crank up the volume on this great female vocal led rock album. It still amazes me that it never sold well.

Second try to do a short review of the new Vinnitskaya and banner recording for the rebooted Alpha label. Both concertos show the cheeky / cynical side of Shostakovich, and that is a side I don't enjoy so much. But I have to say, Vinnitskaya makes a pretty good case; she is instantly recognizable and vastly more enjoyable to listen to (and, ahem, look at) than old Dmitri himself in his famous, but really quite dire, recording on EMI.

The recording is good but seems slightly shut in at times; but that could be related to the fact that I've not had the chance to increase the volume to reasonable levels.

Cheers,

EJ

What a great album cover Tony

Agree. Most of their album covers are pretty cool.

Hmmm. Haven't played that in a while. Might dig it out later to combat the miserable weather outside.

Seal's second album, and a mighty fine one.  An album that deserves to be played all the way through in one go.  I haven't played this in a couple of months or so and the bass has definitely firmed up, which I must put down to my fairly new Quadraspire bronze spikes.

"An album that deserves to be played all the way through in one go". I have to say that I always play my albums all the way through, that way I can just sit back relax and enjoy rather than dipping in and out. I thoroughly enjoy everything Seal has done, great voice, so I might just be joining you in this one later.

Prompted by Stevee-S's early play.  Isn't nice when you pop something on that you haven't played for a while and you think 'gosh, I forgotten how good this is'?

Agreed - I was triggered by somebody who published an album of Herbie Hancock which triggered me into a Herbie evening.

Management and kids asleep, single malt within reach, and Vieuxtemps' wonderful sonata for viola and piano via the Audeze cans. A Great Moment!

Cheers,
