Listening to radio Arctic Dub Sursumcorda from my Unitiserve . WHY ...

Well not many here seem keen on telling others why it's important  that others should be interested in Knowing what is being listened too , But in this case it's important as to WHY because it's free and plays all my favourite music.

I am just playing this after taking all the scratches off the disc and making it look like it just came from the pressing plant for a friend.

This one is going on next, I have liked all their albums I have tried first listen so far and I think they have plenty more to offer with more spins. Really looking forward to the CD's landing.

EJ,

Here I thought you have ditched Naim so that you don't have to engage in a Hifi wankery!

I haven't listened to Pollini's last Brahms with Thielemann.

How is it compared to the one with Abbado?

P.S. Which rack?

Or even 'Waterloo Lily'. Or 'Cunning Stunts' - I never understood the panning that Cunning Stunts received from the critics. It's a great album IMHO.

Indeed, I have them all and they are excellent but I find that 'If I Could.....' Is more satisfying somehow.

That's not entirely untrue; the Finite Elemente rack came in for aesthetic reasons as well as a desire to give the CD player some firmer footing. Some audioquest power cables were meant to clean up the cable mess at the back. I didn't expect the effect on sound to be as big as it was. I will revert to the stock leads or even the old rack if the sound doesn't clean up in the next week or so.

Pollini's Brahms hasn't seriously evolved over the years; the recordings with Thielemann are perhaps a bit less mercurial, slightly more emphatic, and clearly with less power on tap. In these works, Thielemann is the more interesting conductor (unlike the borefest that was his Brahms symphony #1). Sound quality is a bit better for the Thielemann disc, although still not devoid of that 'live' veil.

On vinyl.

Thanks EJ.

When I was in the *maple/silver* phase, I was interested in the Finite Elemente rack for a possible candidate but never pulled the trigger due to its depth.

Thanks for your thoughts on the Thieleman/Pollini set. Think I'm gonna give it a go. He's like Jack-in-the-box. I never know what I get. I've no idea what on earth happened with his Brahms' 1st Symphony there...

Lacking dynamics and it's just very bad tension management. Rich in tone but not well timed throughout losing the plot in a first half.
