Another hi-res download from Qobus:

Pink Floyd - "The Division Bell"

Another fine Pink Floyd album sounding great in 24 Bit 96 KHz format, and very nearly as good as  "The Endless River" which preceded it on my Linn Klimax Renew.

Herbie Mann, 'London Underground' on freshly cleaned vinyl. The closing song is his version of the Beatles' 'You Never Give Me Your Money', with Herbie Mann playing alto flute - simply beautiful.

Clive,

Unfortunately, Herbie Mann's album cover "Push Push", posted on the "BAD Album Covers" thread has had such a traumatic impact on me that I will never again be able to look at, let alone play a Herbie Mann album ever again.

Don't look at the thread if you want to continue appreciating his music.

I've just checked the album cover of 'Push Push' and I can understand your concerns, but I'm not one for looking at the album cover when the record's spinning. There may be those who find it rather appealing though.

London Underground is quite safe, I assure you. And musically rather enjoyable.

Now that really is scary!

Well Sneaky SNAIC,

I can't tell you how glad I am that you selected your particular cover and not "Push Push" as your profile pic.

On vinyl.

Listening only to Chopin's Waltzs and Sonata no 3 since the arriving package was missing the second disc (Mazurkas & Piano Concerto No 2).

Buffalo Springfield. Eponymous debut album (1966) on HDCD from 1997. Contains in succession both the mono and stereo formats of this album. A unique combination of folk, psychedelic, and 60's pop/rock. Definitely a 'hippie' album with a nice groove to it.

Kempff/Leitner's Mozart Piano Concerto No.27 1962 recording

Orchestra sounds more prominent and has a tendency of overwhelming a piano at times but this is a thoughtful performance. ( probably due to a poor mono fold down )

His Larghetto wins me over. There is so much more drama here. The final movement sounding a bit sluggish but Kempff's intimate but dazzling cadenza keeps the tune together.

This album looks like it should belong in one of those *bad LP* cover collection.

1972 recording of Buchbinder's Mozart Piano Concerto No.27 is a low energy dull affair.

All three movement sound the same with no contrast among them and sound too fussy especially Allegro for my taste.

Coincidentally, I pulled this off the shelf for listening tonight only to find it posted here. Mine is the original CD release, with Braille on the jewel case. Great music I think, as I'm a fan of DG's solo work and don't find the sound of this all too different from his first two albums, yet still with a true PF band infusion (sans the Water's high impact tracks).

Only poking fun as there's nothing showing on my screen (but it could be Windows 10 to blame on my end).

A bit of opera for the morning

A library loan.

IL Trovatore

Giuseppe Verdi - music
Salvatore Cammarano, Leone Emanuele Bardare - libretto

Carlo Maria Giulini
Coro e Orchestra dell' Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia
Chorus master - Norbert Balatsch

Giorgio Zancanaro - Il Conte di Luna
Rosalind Plowright - Leonora
Brigitte Fassbaender - Azucena
Placido Domingo - Manrico
Evgeny Nesterenko - Ferrando
Anna di Stasio - Ines
Walter Gullino - Ruiz
Alfredo Giacomotti - Un vecchio zingaro
Aldo Verrecchia - Un messo

(Deutsche Grammophon - Digital recording - 1984)

"This recording is easy first choice for the modern listener, though fans of the old will want to keep Karajan and Callas nearby, only for Callas' incredible performance. Giulini does an incredible job –  a perfect recording, and extremely enjoyable."

Green Day. 21st Century Breakdown. On CD from 2009. I'm no fan of the loudness wars, but if ever a band might use such sound to their benefit its Green Day. I think Billie Joe is a brilliant songwriter and this album a great follow-up to "American Idiot".

This group also has a good 2nd album, the 3th and 4th are degrading...

(2013)

As far as I can tell (via Discogs) this is his last album to date. Full of his trademark ambient electronic melodies its a nice one to start the day with.
