Picked this classic up for only $5 today at the used book/CD store near my office - the cheapest one on Amazon was $30; I am a happy camper to nab this Norman Granz classic for such a bargain!

Even has the whole booklet reproduced that came with the original 12 x 78 RPM box set!

Also grabbed this for $3 - I guess it was my night for picking up yellow album covers...

Paul McCartney. Flaming Pie. On CD from 1997. Since The Beatles disbanded Macca has released over 30 pop/rock albums and I'd consider this in the top five of those efforts. Ringo and Steve Miller contribute, and the presence of George Martin as co-producer can be heard.

Playing CD1 of 2 and considering how much of this music was recorded back in the 50s' this always sounds very good to me with Segovia's typical delicately sensitive playing.

Muti/Philadelphia: Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4 & Scriabin Prometheus

This was a younger Muti with full on drama and speed.

Muti plays the score like an Italian opera full of colours and wit. It’s rather heavy but he does not let it too overcooked maintaining a decent rhythmic pulse.

This is somewhat of helter skelter tune and there aren’t much of subtleties but highly entertaining and exciting with a huge big bang ending.

Muti certainly playing it up.

What I am more intrigued about is Scriabin's *add on bonus* Prometheus. The piano player is a bit pale compared ( Dmitri Alexeev) to Muti's rich colourful orchestration but what a fantastic highly visual score with a hint of Stravinsky's Firebird feel.

Mesmerizing at times, this music creates the mystic world of cavernous vista and huge dynamic swings.

2nd part which you normally tend to listen to less as you always start in the first book with the famous first notes...

From one Master of the guitar (Segovia) to another, recorded variously between 1971-'78 with André Previn and the LSO(concerto).

Deft playing on this album. A very enjoyable pairing.

An album out of his great period, don't like his late work so much.....

Inspired and inspiring maestro guitarist with great melodies, rhythm, cool licks, and a sense of humour.

I decide to spin some vinyl while I sit down with a nice cup of coffee and think about all the things I'm supposed to do round the house (but probably won't) this Bank Holiday weekend.

I love this record and I always play it from beginning to end - including Revolution 9. Mono vinyl from last year.

Top tip, Bert: Get 'on vinyl' - it actually sounds like music!

I indeed appreciate the sound, but with two cats in the house it's impossible...

Started the morning with this on vinyl - not one of his best, I have to say. It's curious how the songs on this album differ so much from the originals, yet for the subsequent concerts he chose to stick much closer to the original form.

But all was made well in the world with the subsequent album (also 180g vinyl) - spectacularly good music!

And now this (also 180g vinyl):

Great artwork on this.

(2003)

"Hybrid has become famous in the electronic community for their skillful and lush atmosphere and sweeping cinematic orchestrations, all smoothed over solid breakbeats. They continue this formula with renewed vigor, adding layer upon layer of the thick stuff, whilst drawing in various collaborators to add depth and in some way, sonic clarity. Hybrid is so thick with sound and beautiful and massive arrangements- for which the word epic doesn't begin to cover- that the appearance of organic instruments and heartbreakingly vulnerable vocals makes this record entirely human. What results is, for lack of a better word, a sonic journey." - An Amazonian's Comment

Blondie Parellel Lines original vinyl pressing. Never thought Blondie transferred well to CD. The vinyl sounds superb.
