Original UK pressing. I bought this at a record shop in Tunbridge Wells called Volunteers while I was still in the Fifth Form (aged 16) in about May '79. What a fantastic album - it's got "Are Friends Electric?" and "Down In the Park" on it.

Unusually I had no idea what to play or listen to,  so I just plumped for something familiar that I haven't heard in a while.

First listen, Ewe. Never been keen on their studio stuff but they are kind of "okayish" live. Would not go mental though...Mike McCready is a good guitarist. Vedder has always been a bit of a tit!

On vinyl

One of two excellent albums I have from them, both hi-res downloads from Qobuz:

Savoy Brown - "Shake Down"

Superb 'Blues Rock' music.

Great album.  Got to get it out for a spin one of these days. Enjoy it!

Product Details

Played this to death on my vinyl copy back in the late 70's just got a re mastered CD version and it's still at it's hard rocking best.

With Cozey Powell on drums and the late great Ronnie James Dio on vocals the band never bettered this offering, when Dio exclaims I see a rainbow rising towards the end of the epic Stargazer it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

On vinyl -- and a clean copy at that. Aw, yiss!

A couple years before they joined Fleetwood Mac, and damn if many of the elements from their halcyon days aren't there already.

Little known band from the island, probably not listened to much over there, but in 'Merica they are still heard every 5th song on classic rock stations.  I've worked out most of my childhood problems and had more parenting from Roger Waters than I did mom and dad.  True story.

Anyway...on vinyl with everything working right apparently I can say that "Welcome to the Machine" is flippen epic.  Pretty amazing...

Steely Dan: The Royal Scam 1976 release

MCA reissue isn't bad but it still trails behind the original ABC Records pressing ( ABCD-931) which has much richer harmonic structure and natural midrange.

Roger Nichols is the one to blame for that.

Red Hot Chili Peppers. Stadium Arcadium. On 2CD from 2006. The more I listen to the Pepper's music the more appreciation I gain for John Frusciante's brilliance on guitar. A warm, tubey, vintage sound combined with modern crunch and distortion. Soft, velvety rhythms combined with hard leads as required. The music always flows seamlessly from his fingers. A true virtuoso.

Not his best, I prefer his earlier albums but its still a good way to kick off the day.
