Marriner/St.Martin's all-star cast Brandenburg Concertos: 1980 recording

Clean and spacious sound I expect from a Philips recording. No obvious distortion and relatively wide dynamic range.

Sophisticated and highly polished ultra genteel rendition. Rhythmic and bouncy and notes glide off the musicians. A nice balance between romantic and HIP practice. Harpsichord also are done in classy way not to be too intrusive but adding textural interests. Szeryng’s expressive playing is adding a human interest to the tune.

SQ on this one is hard to beat.

Streaming -- Radio by TuneIn, via Sonos. I quit my job in New York in June and my wife and I drove across America in a BMW my dad and I fixed up. (He had it under his porch in Arizona for 20 years -- it made it all the way back to NYC!) A priceless experience -- all the more so because of the great radio we heard along the way. Marfa Public Radio is a true gem and streams 24/7 (marfapublicradio.org) if you're so inclined -- though most of the good stuff gets played in the wee hours in the UK. Try to catch "Texas Music: Hour of Power" on Saturday night, if you can!

Solti/CSO: Elgar Enigma Variations/ Schoenberg Variations Op.31

Typical Solti void of sweetness and stiff missing a romantic lyrical flow. No good for telling human stories but perfect for playing abstract shapes and patters of Schoenberg's work.

A quiet start to the morning required and this one fits the bill, well remastered in '95.

Fantastic performances of the Saint-Saëns cello sonatas, by one of the most exciting cello-piano partnerships on the scene today.

On Spotify, pleasant enough, not going to get my money though, sort of Porcupine Tree/ Spock's Beard mix, but I'll stick with those bands.

Some good (modern) prog rock from this British band that have been likened to Dream Theater and many of the old favourite prog bands.

"What a fantastic third album from Haken. Any lover of quality, passionate about music won't fail to be impressed. Brilliant harmony vocals, Gentle Giant style vocals in places, superb musicianship and a little bit of the kitchen sink thrown in too. Harks back to the days when bands weren't afraid to experiment and boy does it all work here. Not a duff track, plenty of variety and all lovely melodies and themes." - Proggydave on Amazon

"Great album. Heavy, melodic, inventive, melancholy, uplifting, weird (in a good way), superbly mixed, great playing, excellent vocals. Looking forward to hearing their other stuff,a happy discovery." Barkin_Mad on Amazon

David Munyon is an "old style" singer and songwriter in the tradition of Dylan, Cohen et all.  If you have never heard him and are looking for something new! give him a go he is a hidden treasure IMO... An added bonus all David's CDs have brilliant SQ.

Cognitive ~ Soen          (2012)

Soen's first album and one that seems to have gone under the radar. The ex drummer from Opeth gives the clue that this will have 'metal' involved but its more than just that, its a mix of metal and prog rock and very well put together, their next album Tellurian is even better.

Neighbours out so I can do justice to this album.  Garbage deserves a bit of volume

I really like this album. I'll have to check out Tellurian!

Sounds like a thread could start on this "Tellurian in da house".

Started with this before, a pity that they only put this out as extract on Bandcamp, a total album gives a better impression..
