This 2 cd set is beautiful and the interpretation by Pahud puts him apart.
Not very impressive sound but very beautiful songs (lyrics).
Repin/Chailly/Gewandhause : Brahms Violin Concertos 2008 recording
The first exposure to Repin. Sad to say he never gets cooking lacking urgency and drama. Interestingly he picked Heifetz’ cadenza but only Heifetz can get away with it as Repin’s rendition sounds like series of mistakes. Slugishness continues all through the 1st movement. Chailly’s orchestration is cordial rather than dynamic and passionate. The intro of Adagio comes off lazy without much anticipation. This is a disappointing set with nothing new to offer coming off rather bland.
Oistrackh/Fournier/Galiera/Philharmonia ouble Concerto 1956 recording
A hell of a lot more personality and drama than Repin/Chailly set. They at least give me something to chew on.
Fournier's cello has a woody warm body complimenting fine lined Oistrakh's. Galliera's orchestration is in a classic style but well paced and opulant and get out of their way to compliment the soloists. The duo sounds a bit Odd Couple like. Fournier as Oscar, Oistrakh as Felix.
Martha Argerish with Frineds: Live from Lugano Festival 2005 Release
I love her Lugano Festival concert recording. The program is always an element of surprise and unique.
Disc 1 :
Prokofiev's Symphony No.1 piano reduction for two: Here Martha rips and frolicks with Yefim Bronfmann. Ok so live recording so you won't get much of harmonic richness here but
full of wit and playful so much fun!. Excellent articulation and precision throughout. The finale gets a tad too hurried but all’n’all excellent show generating exciting program.
2nd program is Nutcracker Suites piano reduction for two.
Tchaikovsky without usual thick opulent orchestration actually works well giving this old war horse fresh outlook.
Just about the only time I missed the weight of the orchestra is the finale where two piano gets a bit stringy rather than giving the imposing weight and drama. But the rest of the tunes particularly these piano pieces are much fresher and livelier than many mediocre orchestrations out there.

I remember being blown away when this their debut was released and when I first heard their twin lead guitars playing off each other, it's still working for me to this day.
Not got that Ash album and I see there's a Collector's Edition due out on 2nd Oct. Am tempted.

Yep just posted up that forthcoming remaster Mike, if you want to try before you buy and if you have Deezer Elite or Spotify they have pretty much all their back catalogue. FYI that same label have also remastered and expanded "Argus" a few months back and I'm tempted but my SHM-CD sounds very good so I'm not sure but here is a link for you. Cheers, Steve

Cheers, Steve.
The label that has released the Argus 2 cd set don't have a very good rep when it comes to remastering. Usually most of their stuff is brickwalled. However I haven't heard this version so I cannot comment on it's sq myself.
Thanks for the heads up.

The cover from this one contains all the detail, I haven't listened to this one before so it's going to be a first for me this morning.
Green Day. Insomniac. On CD from 1995. Fourteen tracks in just under 33 minutes. A concise, loud and aggressive foray into American punk rock.

Ewemon if it helps that same label released their remastered version of Argus just a couple of months ago, same format as WA here, someone you know might have had more opportunity listening to that one. Cheers, Steve.
Love this album particularly the track "Poor Eric" Jackie's moving tribute to his great friend Eric Dolphy. ....Music Matters Vinyl.

Majestic old fashioned prog', soaring guitars, riffs and electronics, great melodies, it's still one of Pendragon's best.
So far today;
Led Zep 4
My Dying Bride Songs of Darkness Words of Light. DARK!! but loved it
My Dying Bride, the dreadful hours. It's sill DARK
Bjørn Riis Lullaby In A Car Crash
Porcupine Tree Sky Moves Sideways
Gazpacho Ghost
All on CD. I have the house to myself and the Neighbours are out, so a chance to listen to music at that perfect volume.

That's a nice collection of music to listen to at suitable volume, although I must admit that I don't know My Dying Bride.

Wiki say "My Dying Bride are an English doom metal band formed in Bradford, England in 1990. To date, My Dying Bride have released eleven full-length studio albums, three EPs, one demo, one box set, four compilation albums, one live album, and one live CD/DVD release."
I say if you are in the Mood it really is very good.
Then on to;
Metallica, And Justice for all. "One" was that track that finally sold me the Naim system I have now.
And now Rush, Moving Pictures on remastered CD. Loving it.

A return to form after the controversial Train of Thought two years previously that supposedly divided the fanbase (I thought it was fine). This one however is more like DT as we know them, particularly from the mid point of the album when various instrumental virtuoso passages start to kick in.
