(1972)

" Klaus Dinger played drums on the first Kraftwerk LP in 1971. The following year he joined forces with Michael Rother and they formed Neu!, releasing their self-titled debut LP on German label Brain. Their music was heavily innovative and influential, melting distorted guitars with metronomic drumming, noise effects and tapes." ~ Discogs

Written in later in Schubert's life along with Winterreise and late piano sonatas, this trio runs over 40 min. filled with many of Schubertian touches. Singing melody line, abrupt stops in the middle of the tune and general wondering around. Underlying melancholia peaks out occasionally.

This Westminster mono recording holds up relatively well but the strings are on a dry side and the performance did not stand the test of time sounding dated.

Interesting. I happened to listen to Badura-Skoda playing Haydn's sonatas 40,48 and 49 (Astrée, vinyl) yesterday and that recording has not aged a bit. Mind you, it was really excellent at the time.
