Magnificant, I will also buy his just recently published new recital album, just holding off right now as I don't want to buy now standard cd quality and miss out on potential high res version. While the website doesn't talk about high res...

Today has been a day for cleaning and listening to some of my old vinyl. Most of them sound superb after a thorough cleaning on my RCM. This one is not an exception.

The RCM purchase seems to have worked out well for you, adding more enjoyment to your collection. Bravo. Enjoy.

Magnificent recital by Leonard Elschenbroich - at times as revelatory as his Rachmaninov / Shostakovich disc.

Actually there is a *hi-res* files release as a vinyl scheduled in the US on 3 Feb.

I suspect that It will be at least 24/96. Let's hope that it will sound better than Naive CD box set which I found clinical and stripped of colours.

Considering this is a newish release and probably a digital remaster, Sony have done a reasonable job with it. Certainly worth the current £11.37 price tag from other sellers via Amazon uk.

God invented cold dark winter nights for box-sets like this.

The last time i played this CD was the January of 4 years ago; having just made the forum search for the track list that looks numerally Hob XV dull compared to how the music sounds. I remember these recordings of this box-set are played on a few different machines; harpsichords, clavecins, and pianoforte. Some sound better [more enjoyable on the ear] than others.

Debs,

I will join you with my own "Leicht zu spielen, unterhaltsam zu hören" (it even rhymes Ronen/horen):

Haven't listened to Mozart's Violin sonata much. Interesting that he started out as a fiddle player but hated it and switched to piano playing later on.

Lively and rhythmic. Perlman and Barenboim are working well together. Barenboim is the best at these simple chamber works rather than playing a big concerto.

They do not have much of sophistication so the tunes remain down to earth and friendly.

This is the original US '90's CD release and sounds much nicer albeit the fiddle sounds still a touch dry.

Pink Floyd. Echoes. 2 CD compilation from 2001. Strange for me to hear PF's songs out of sequence from their studio LPs, as I typically do dedicated listening to their albums in a darkened room. But this compilation works for casual listening while getting some work done.

Oh that's great news, I will wait then. And yes I agree as to the remarks on the soundquality of the Naive box, Sokolov even shines regardless of that.

There is a kind of dark atmosphere in this album, not goth like but just in the way the music is played. It's not that you easily could remember tunes, but you still are taken by the music. A interesting album.

The allmusic site lists 3 digital download releases alongside a CD and an LP.

No details are given on the digital downloads but they are likely to be an MP3, Redbook and HighRes version.

One digital release has a release date of February 3, the others January 19.

cheers

Wow, listening to Spiral this time of the morning. I'll have some of whatever you've been taking.  Love the album!
