The live version of Birdland on this CD just kicks ass...

An album from my senior year at undergrad...

Never been a big fan of BC Rich guitars (Rick shown above with a Mockingbird Koa.)  Although some of the vintage ones fetch pretty good change...

Good. Now I have to decide which phono stage is going to replace the Project I have now.

A Naim one or the Linn. Again I don't have the possibility to audition here.

Little Richard. Rock 'n' Roll Legends. Universal Music CD from 2008. A 20 track compilation of Penniman's boisterous, soulful vocals with hard driving piano and sax accompaniments from the advent of the rock 'n' roll genre.

I've got his early solo albums from the 70s along with the stuff from his Edgar Winter Group days...

'All American Boy' opens with a big upbeat straight Rock'n'Roll ' Hoochie Koo' but my fave is more down tempo mellow tune like 'it's raining' or Patti Smith written power ballad like 'Hold'.

Interesting what I learn here. I never associated Derringer with Edgar Winter in the studio, but I saw them live together as part of Ringo's All-Star Band in 2011. A great synergy to the band's performance that night and their rendition of "Free Ride" is etched in my mind as one of the best live songs I've ever heard.

PJ Harvey. Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea. On CD from 2000. Thanks to cajoling from members here I sampled, bought, and very much enjoy this album.

Joe,

Rick and Edgar have been playing a long time together.

Here's a rare interview of both in Japan back in 1990. They talk about how they met via none other than Johnny Winter.

Rick's credited as a lead guitarist in Edgar Winter Group since 'They Only Come out at Night' which contains a hit 'Free Ride' in 1972.

I'm not familiar with Richard Hawley, but doesn't he strike a resemblance to Bono?

The prolific Cousin Silas (Dave Cousins) is at it again with this very enjoyable one.

“'Through a Cobweb Strange' from Cousin Silas … affectionately referred to as “the disco album" when discussing it with Dave prior to release … is full of beats. In fact, “Through a Cobweb Strange” features fifteen downtempo tracks that combine Silas’ particular style of ambient guitar with varying degrees of percussion."

Through Qobuz streaming - determining if it's interesting enough for me to buy it...

These guys rock hard, getting my head around it. Instrumental, prog, jamming type of thing from Schweden from Bandcamp, will however not buy it

If you can live with French lyrics, a brilliant progressive rock album...., might even be there best effort .....on Bandcamp

*Edit: My error Cousin Silas is David Hughes not David Cousins!

Sticking with Cousin Silas this time joined by Kevin Lyons. A very differently themed (Sci-Fi) and different sounding album than "Through A Cobweb Strange".

"“Amazing Tales of Time and Space” by the enduring partnership of Cousin Silas and Kevin Lyons transports me to alien landscapes and disreputable townships, the kind imagined by visionaries such as Lovecraft or Aldiss; It makes for captivating listening albeit not entirely restful if one is gifted with a vivid imagination." ~ Bandcamp Comment
