Jamie XX -- In Colour. 45 RPM, colored vinyl (three discs: one blue, one pink, one yellow). Get it while it's hot!
Pollini: Schubert Wanderer-Fantasie D760 1973 recording
Pollini executes it with his usual cool precision but comparatively less intense and daring than Richter feeling too controlled. Would have liked to see him going out on a limb a bit.
Oldies but goodies for me - almost a time capsule.
PJ Harvey. Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea. On CD from 2000. Thanks to cajoling from members here I sampled, bought, and very much enjoy this album.
Oh yes, that's a good one. "This Mess We're In" is just fabulous. It all is, actually.
Four young lads at the height of their powers. The pretentiousness was yet to emerge. Killer live album.

"Much like Stratosfear before it in 1976, Tangram is very much a transitional album, the halfway point between one era and the next. That is not to say anything of its quality; rather it is a comment on its unusual style. If Stratosfear was the point when the band edged away from Berlin School to progressive rock, then Tangram is the move from prog to the new age / synthpop blend they would perfect in the 1980s. Although the arrival of Johannes Schmoelling as a permanent third member, and the procurement of digital gear give the album a fresh, new sound, structurally the two pieces on the album are very similar to the title track of Force Majeure: strong melodic anthemic sections joined by short sections of synth noise." ~ Bullfinchart on Discogs

Downloaded yesterday from HDTracks and queuing it up for the first time.
The Doors. Debut album (1967) on Elektra/Rhino CD from 2006. The 40th anniversary mix includes bonus tracks of "Moonlight Drive" and "Indian Summer" and reveals the censored lyrics "she gets high" on "Break On Through". For CD listening I still prefer the 1999 Bernie Grundman HDCD release, true to the original and with excellent SQ.

*Update: Unfortunately my download of this suffers from distinct low level background hiss across all the tracks. I have doubled checked my kit against a known good album "Meet Me in London" 24/192 and that is as clean as a whistle, put "Rattle'" back on and the hiss is back.
Has anyone else had this problem with this album from HDTracks? I am wondering if I should try downloading it again to try and get a clean copy.

I'm sure there is some "added" vinyl clicks on one track.
I was quite disappointed with the album, not up to his other solo works. Sounded a bit strained in the voice at times, nothing stayed with me after hearing it. Might have another listen on Spotify at some time, maybe I'll be in a more receptive mood.

Thanks Howard, unfortunately I was too distracted wondering if the hiss was actually there (it was) or if my lugs were playing up so the album and music was frequently interrupted. I will try it again tonight, it will be interesting to see if I am permitted to download my purchase again, I know I can do that from others like Qobuz and Bandcamp but at first look HDTracks don't seem to be quite so forthcoming...

Probably finishing of the evening's listening with this one, Korn back to their heavy (industrial) dual guitar attack best and this time with added electronica.
I really tried to like Korn and if it were not for Jonathan's constant whingeing lyrics I'll probably enjoy them more.
I do like their industrial metal beats and catchy riffs. I stopped listening to them after Untouchables - Here To Stay is a great track, but occasionally listen to their early stuff like Follow the Leader and Korn.

Psalm 69 ~ Ministry (1992)
Something extremely loud, visceral and heavy not listened to in about 9 months.
"Ministry's eighth album, released in 1992, is their best-known (and best) work, an awesomely heavy slab of industrial dance music. Incidentally, Psalm 69 is a title of convenience, like Led Zeppelin 4 - the actual title is something incomprehensible in Greek! ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ Snarling, raging guitars conspire with relentless programmed rhythms to bludgeon the listener into submission." ~ Amazonian commenter
Artist overload but great fun. WAV stream.

Yes I know what you mean Tony and largely agree with you, the two albums you mention are very good indeed. I think this one was a bit of a return to form after some rather poor stuff in the interim.
