Wow, listening to Spiral this time of the morning. I'll have some of whatever you've been taking. Love the album!
Sure beats a strong cup of coffee to blow the morning cobwebs away Tony. House to myself, nearest neighbour half a mile away.... heaven!
You lucky man, Rob. Enjoy it!

Cheers Tony! Ministry lined up after this then some Rev Co. I'm feeling rather "Industrial" this morning, but thankfully, as I am recently retired, not in the work sense!

Today has been a day for cleaning and listening to some of my old vinyl. Most of them sound superb after a thorough cleaning on my RCM. This one is not an exception.
"The RCM purchase seems to have worked out well for you, adding more enjoyment to your collection. Bravo. Enjoy."

Thanks Jeff.
It has worked out much better than I had hoped. I'm spending time cleaning my old vinyl, listening to it (in many cases) for the first time in 20 odd years and for the most part discovering just how wonderful the albums are. I'm also picking up the odd album 2nd hand from back in the 70s & 80s and I can't believe just how good most of them sound after a good clean.
Local network streaming will still constitute the bulk of my listening, but the option to put on a piece of vinyl and really enjoy it is now also available to me.
I would thoroughly recommend a good RCM for anyone who wants to revitalise their vinyl collection.
So, first listen of the day, having just got back from the gym:
On vinyl from 1982:

Joe Henry
"Civilians" 2007 mp3
from amazon site:
"Joe Henry's Civilians is a stirring, sincere and thoughtful work of simple brilliance. Henry has said he did not intend to make a political record yet did, but it's politics is timeless, rooted in civilian struggle of the simple meandering hardships and graces of life, regardless of whatever "current administration" of whatever year. The record could have been recorded 50, 30, 20 years ago and the same political references would have been relevant.
Beyond the politics, the music and lyrics are rich and vivid, the songs are never let go, held tight yet given enough room to breathe. Civilians could be described as a mix between "Kindness of the World" and "Tiny Voices". And although many will think it hyperbole, Civilians is not just the front running candidate for album of the year (2007), Henry has delivered what could easily be a contender for album of the decade."
They put something alien made in this year flu. I could not resist but open what Mr. Postman left by the door. Thanks for tip. Great record!

Mogwai ~ Young Team (1997)
Their excellent debut album.
"Young Team' was and remains a spectacular, incandescent rock record. There aren't many bands in Britain who are capable of both the shuddering death-metal of 'Like Herod''s loud bits and the poignant, crushing 'Tracy'. Compared with the second album 'Come On Die Young' it sometimes seems a little under-realised - perhaps a result of the aforementioned rushing - but as 'Mogwai's 'Fear Satan' envelops your stereo for fifteen utterly compelling minutes, it doesn't really matter."

Mogwai ~ Come On Die Young (1999)
"Scottish noise terrorists Mogwai were weaned on a diet of intense, experimental American rock. Accordingly, Come On Die Young has the darkest heart; thankfully, though, it's by no means an unlistenable prospect. The opening track, "Punk Rock", samples a bootlegged interview with Iggy Pop, in which the man claims "I don't know Johnny Rotten. But I'm sure he puts as much blood, and sweat into what he does as Sigmund Freud did." And that's the great thing about Mogwai: they care too much. Taking their cue from the instrumental menace of groups like Labradford and Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Mogwai construct a dark, panoramic noise. "Helps Both Ways" and "Ex-Cowboy" are distillations of melancholia, but "Christmas Steps" is the album's blazing peak--a precise tidal wave of destruction that brings a truly landmark album to a close." --Louis Pattison
