Ivo Pogorelich: Chopin Recital  1981 release

Nocturne No.16 in E Flat Major,

Op.55 No.2

Beautifully delineated and surprisingly retrospective for his age. Certainly he makes a heavy entrance than many. Under effectively minimalistic modern rendition, a glimpse of reflective moment peaks in and out.

The Temptations: Do the Temptations  1976 release

Very funky smooth R&B.

Paul McCartney and Denny Laine. Rock And Roll Jam Sessions. Kintyre Records CD from 1989. A bootleg, rough mixes. Nothing noteworthy here, but I give it an occasional listen when the mood strikes me.

John Lennon. Plastic Ono Band (1970). Remastered CD from 2000. Despite the heavy bass and percussion, the production is simple and exposes a guttural honesty and at times frailty to Lennon's vocals. The music is genuine, delivered with emotion, and I think his best and most cohesive solo album.

Sleep on radio 3 by Max Richter. A rather wonderful way to start Sunday morning.

Meat Puppets. Backwater. On CD from 1994. A brief set of outstanding metal-driven alternative rock from the band that influenced and later played with Nirvana. Five upbeat tracks concluding with a cover of Marty Robbins'  "White Sport Coat" from 1957 - go figure. Highly recommended.

Pink Floyd. Pulse. On CD from 1995. Inspired by MDS's recent post and a great way to end my listening late on a Saturday night.

Yes it's indeed a great tone and now available on high resolution audio. I only paid 40 euros for 25 albums....

Following up Horses - one of the great debuts - was always going to be tricky, but was there ever a more difficult "difficult second album" than this? At the time it came out in '76, I'd just started reading the music press, and I remember it getting an absolute pasting. However I think it stands up very well - haven't listened to it in years, was prompted to drag out my old vinyl LP by a piece in Mojo magazine.
