Stanley Turrentine: Nightwings 1977 release
Creative direction once again shifts when he moved from CTI to Fantasy Records.
Disco/funk era enters in Turrentine's catalogue.
Breathy laid back funky tunes with strings.
He's sounding more like Grover Washington jr.
"The River & The Thread" is labelled as americana and that it is, but there's also country & western, blues, roots and sing song with strings an all'
Mr Fjeld,
I don't have any of Rosanne's music, though I had the pleasure of hearing her live and solo in Seattle this summer as the opening act for John Mellencamp. She's not in my typical listening genre, but has a lovely voice for Americana (or whatever you want to call it), is a natural and engaging performer, and was especially good at the piano. Thoroughly enjoyed her music. Need to sample this one, thanks for the suggestion.
First up after breakfast and dog walking was The Decemberists "The King Is Dead"
Mr Fjeld,
Sheer happenstance I'm responding to two or your posts in a row, but coincidentally I heard part of this album hours ago at a get-together with fellow Naim enthusiasts in the Seattle area. Gary brought "The King Is Dead" to the party. SQ was excellent with notable timbre to the strings and tight percussion. Only heard a few tracks, but seems to be good stuff.
Niirvana, Nevermind, I'd forgotten how much this album rocks and just how much power is in it. Well worth a listen for a mad hour or so. 24 bit flac via audirvana/hugo
I played that very late last night / early hours of this morning deejay then followed it up with their tremendous Live at Reading album all at full blast for a memorable couple of hours or so. As you say there is so much power there and no surprises why it has become a classic "rock" album, both just 16/44.1 CD rips but sounded great.
Nevermind ....
"I'd forgotten how much this album rocks and just how much power is in it. Well worth a listen for a mad hour or so"... well put dayjay! I've heard this landmark album on CD for years, but the 2011 vinyl takes the experience to an even greater level of power and involvement. You might be sweating when you get done .
Live At Reading ....
My son turned me on to this album. Steve and I have been enjoying it of late. Might be the best live recording I've heard.
From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah ....
Listening to this now, my son's CD from 1996. A compilation of live music from 1989 to 1994. The performances are very good, but not with the overall driving rage of the Reading concert. "Aneurysm" was my favorite here.
Really good album. Not sure if it will come out as a single album in the future but the Bearsville Live album thats included in the current box set is brilliant and IMHO even better than this one.
John Cougar Mellencamp. uh-huh (1983). On remastered CD from 2005. A rock-solid album, this one really struck a groove with me tonight, and I know it's even better heard on vinyl .
Pink Floyd. The Division Bell. Original CD from 1994. This one may as well be a Gilmour solo album, yet overall still plays quite Floydian to me. Musically and for SQ, an excellent listen!

Brilliant example of blues, British style form the late 60's. I have had a copy of this album since I saw them at the Boat club in Nottingham, circa 1969

Attaignant is not a composer I am familiar with, however Hopkison Smith is a lutenist I am always keen to listen to. As ever he plays these pieces early rennaisance pieces exquisitely in his strong yet delicate style.
Quality Brit Jazz.

I agree with you there Charles it is Great Brit' Blues. It amused me to read on the cover notes that they had booked thirty six hours to record these, thinking that this was a long time. He'd did go on to say that Train to Nowhere took two days...

I'd love to hear that, but not about to go for $130 to get it...Ernie can flat tear it up!
A Great Blues album from Steve Miller from 2011.

Some very easy going and nicely crafted ambient.
This one is also V Good...

Due to being off work with Man Flu! this album has been on heavy rotation and is a real grower. I liked it initially and it gets better with each listen, IMO a good DG record.

This comment just about sums it up for me: "A stunning debut from Norwegian band Airbag. Take some classic Pink Floyd, add a dash of Moody Blues and some Coldplay and you have an idea what to expect. Simply beautiful."
