I Musici (p) 1968

Posted on: 22 January 2015 by Haim Ronen

Debs,

I saw I Musici perform Vivaldi in Jerusalem in the mid-seventies. They were outstanding. When I started dating my wife we discovered that we both owned their same Albinoni LP and now, thirty five years later, I am not sure whose copy I am playing.

Johnny Cash. Out Among The Stars. On vinyl from 2014. Previously unreleased music recorded in 1984.

Johnny Cash. The Songs That Made Him Famous. Originally released in 1958, I'm listening to the 1966 stereo reissue. The music is enjoyable, and despite the "electronically rechanneled stereo", the charm of the vintage Sun Records sound can still be appreciated.

Haim,

a His & Hers copy of Tomaso Albinoni must be an orignial stereo set! ; )

But it's nice how vibrant and fresh these recordings can sound from the vinyl today.

I have an LP of an ALbinoni concerto but it's for 2 Oboes Op.7  by the Camerata Bern with an outstanding performance by Heinz Holier and Hans Elhorst.

Just got my copy out of the LP rack for a play : )

Somewhere in my collection i have a Albinoni vinyl box-set [can't remember what of]

i think it's hiding in my store room, will have to find it to play, Albinoni is one of those underestimated composers imho

For me the stand out tracks, and make it worth the entry cost, are "Processional" and "The Oracle". The later being something of a Dave Holland classic. From what I remember this on the moderately priced ECM Touchstone label.

Hi Gian, I still remember the day I bought Tumbleweed Connection. I was away at college and had a record store just 6 blocks walk away, paid roughly $2.98 - $3.98, took it back to the dormitory room and played it on my Zenith Circle-of-Sound stereo. I like early EJ the best.

By the way, nice picture of your home area, looks beautiful.

Yes. I think i  remember that a vinyl 33 was at about 2€ and a half (about 5000 liras). Cassettes even cheaper.

Indeed a beautiful place. But living here has become impossible. When i'll get alone i hope to sell the lot and leave it forever

Soul music, of all the artists I listen to I've loved these the longest and watching them live some years ago was a dream come true
