AC/DC, Highway to Hell.  Getting ready for a friend's birthday night out in the rock pubs and clubs of Liverpool - this seemed appropriate.  flac via audirvana/hugo

Bought this album way back in 1985 and still remains one of my favorite albums today.

Yes agreed Ragman. They had some excellent albums back then.

This makes a change from my usual stuff - in fact it's the first Jean Michel Jarre album I've ever owned... It does sound a bit compressed though, despite being 24 bit. Perhaps I'm not the target audience.

Continuing with the Van Der Graaf Generator listening from last night.

After a hard day's DIY it's goods to unwind with a cheeky double Jameson and some jazz, such as this 1989 Verve compilation on vinyl.

That's very disappointing to hear G. I was looking at getting the first and fourth albums but maybe I'll just look for decent condition early pressings...

A stunningly good album. I suspect in time it will be regarded as a classic.

Classic.

A curious EMI stereo LP from 1967, picked up for 50p at a junk shop in Bexhill 20 years ago. Stunning SQ, even if the music is a bit random. It's got Ron Goodwin doing 633 Squadron though.

I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has this as I have had two copies and both have quite bad surface noise.  Shame because the SQ is fantastic!

Mine is "on the way" and currently bouncing around or getting crushed in some courier plane or delivery truck.  Hopefully I'll have mine in a few days and will report back.

Thanks Florestan, look forward to your findings.

Andy.

Andy,  mine arrived yesterday and playing it currently.  Uncleaned, other than some minor static on the second track, mine is perfect.  No surface noise that I can detect.  In fact, this is an exceptional example of vinyl in my opinion.

What is not exceptional is that I cannot seem to get vinyl delivered to me with some sort of damage.  The last three of five albums in the last two weeks, including this one, arrived with a corner bent over along the circumference of the record.  I am so tired of returning things like this and am worn down enough just to leave it.  These cases were not shipping damage but almost certainly just poor handling by pin head persons that love their jobs and show it by rough handling and dropping them etc.

I will certainly keep this one, bent corner and all, as I don't want to take a chance and receive a less perfect piece of vinyl.

I hope you can end your unlucky streak as well.  The third time's the charm, maybe?

Doug

Thanks for getting back to me Doug.

Sorry to hear that the delivery of your vinyl was so poor and the resulting condition of the record cover.

Interesting to hear you have no surface noise on your copy as I sent my first copy back to Linn for them to test.

They said it was comparable to the other copies they tried and this was acceptable. I got them to send me a second sealed copy but it is as bad as the first so I have to put up with it!

Glad to hear that at least your vinyl is perfect.

Thanks again,

Andy.

My father bought that album when it was first released. Haven't heard it in years.
