Had just listened to this, I like prefer his more emotional record of the Schubert lieder to the more formal recordings of others like Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau...

Now switched to a nice compilation of Callas based on the new remasters....

I've got albums of Eliane Elias playing piano, but this is the first I've bought where she sings as well. Interesting....

Townshend and Laines Rough Mix - wonderful album. Anyone know of a good Townshend greatest hits type album on vinyl? Got Anthology on cd but can't find on vinyl.

Kazumi Watanabe: The Best Performance 1982 release
Some records, I have no idea why I bought them in the first place. From this dorky cover art, it can't be for that. :/
Anyways, this is a typical 70s funk fusion a la Lee Ritenour.
Excellent sound and high technical guitar playing but oh so soul-less.

Sadao Watanabe: California Shower 1978 release
With his usual California crew.
- Bass – Chuck Rainey
- Drums – Harvey Mason
- Guitar – Lee Ritenour
- Percussion – Paulinho Da Costa
- Piano [Acoustic], Electric Piano [Fender Rhodes] – Dave Grusin
- Saxophone [Tenor] – Ernie Watts
The only reason I like most of his records is for Dave Grusin's influence.

Sadao Watanabe: Bird of Paradise 1977 recording @ Vanguard Studio NYC.
Many play Charlie Parker tribute album but none are successful at it including this one.
- Bass – Ron Carter
- Drums – Anthony Williams
- Piano – Hank Jones
As much as above musicians are talented, it's no match for 'Donna Lee' played by Parker, Miles Davis, Bud Powell, Tommy Potter and Max Roach. Now that's a killer set.

Came up dry in three different places for vinyl today, so I bought some of the better priced new vinyl which I'd consider slam dunks or already have in multiple formats.
Here's another I couldn't resist...

Rosalyn Tureck: Bach WTC Book II Nos. 17-24 1960? recording
Gould has publicly admitted that Tureck's playing had an influence on how he plays his Bach.
Soft and feminine rendition not at all like Gould yet No.20 Fugue intro is somewhat daring with hard stop and shift of direction. She never gets the note angular or hard as Gould but there is a similar rhythmic pulse between them.
