4 CD (8 albums) box set of PT's early Polydor output for ridiculously low price on the River site. First decent digital release of my favourite "Makiin' Magic"

Haven't played this Mary Black album for a while.  I'm now reminded how good it is.

(1973)

One of his many classic albums. I watched an excellent documentary on Sky Arts HD about the making of this album and Apostrophe, I have had this one in the playlist since then. Time to play it again...

The Beatles produced so many excellent albums so it's hard to chose but this is favourite. Perhaps that's in part because Abbey Road was also my first Beatles album.

Unfortunately, I missed the Sky Arts HD docu. All eyes on the blue screen from now on. Apostrophe, is one of my faves, too.

Sadao Watanabe: Orange Express  1981 release

With his usual California cast. Easy going fusion jazz.

I like Dave Grusin flavour and his tune on this album.

Sadao Watanabe: Fill Up the Night  1983 Release

Once again, his supporting cast is more impressive. This time, without Grusin.

  • Bass – Marcus Miller
  • Drums – Steve Gadd
  • Guitar – Eric Gale
  • Keyboards – Richard Tee

Sadao Watanabe: Rendezvous  1984 release

The same cast and Ralph McDonald produced album. Light in content as usual but more rhythmic.

Roberta Flack joins in for a vocal. As usual I am impressed how he could get all these A list musicians.

Awfully Winelight like, sure enough Richard Tee on keyboard.

(1976)

I do enjoy starting the day with TD.

Storgards' way with Sibelius is quite a bit different than the norm: helped by a recording balance that is heavily biased towards the wind section, he's after the big effects. In the symphonies that rely most on dramatic build-up and 'traditional' story telling, like the first and second, he doesn't succeed in maintaining tension. The fourth is a bit ho-hum. In the fifth, the finale is great but the start is overly pedestrian. I've not gotten around to nrs 6 and 7, yet.
