Vladimir Feltsman : Bach The Well Tempered Clavier  Book I  1992 Recording

Beautifully recorded gobs of atmospheric air along with rich Hamburg Steinway colours are captured in this intimate recording. It almost has a spiritual feel to the program.

Feltzman does not let the note hang around too long. The effect is delicate yet does not get too unfocused. He’s got a beautiful rich tonal colour and at times it’s played like an organ rather than piano. Upfront and lively but not angular. There are enough dynamic expressions between the tune to keep me engaged. Sophisticated and intelligently played yet there is a lyrical moving flow though the program. NOt as lively or playful as Gould ( noone is ) and this set has a serious undertone. There is a Schumann like wry romantic notion on some tunes.

Saw a show on AXS TV featuring Frank turner and found it rather interesting.  Picked up a few of his recordings.  This one is the deluxe version of his Positive Songs for Negative People with 1 disc electric versions, the 2nd disk acoustic versions.  Very interesting CD set. Quite enjoyable so far.

Kuma,

Please tell me this is not vinyl?

I'm about to spring for Feltsman's complete WTC on Nimbus.  I think this is the same recording (1992/93)?

Doug,

These indeed are vinyl copy.

I'd guess that Nimbus CDs are the same recording. These are done by Musical Heritage Society originally and recored at American Academy And Institute Of Arts & Letters, NY on 9-11 & 16 Dec. 1992.

USA for Africa : We Are the World 1985 release

A corny power ballad which had a large radio and MTV play which the title tune featured who's who in the pop music in the US back in the mid 80s.

Now sort of fun to spot the voice of who's singing.

Conspicuously Madonna is missing.

Fond memories of this album and a great bunch of guys. Plenty of laughs.

(1968)

As happened on quite a few double albums around this time, one half was studio and the other live. The Nice's Nice in '69 is another that instantly springs to mind.

CD 1 of 2 from a very good live album and one I always like returning to.

I take it then that you have had this in your collection or found it at some garage sale?  This isn't a recent re-release?

If only I lived in an area like you where so much interesting older vinyl is available.

This album is fantastic but try the below track if you want to hear what your system can do!!

After the brilliant Blackfield I and II I decided to try their third album - very poor. So giving benefit to doubt I decided to invest in Blackfield IV. Rubbish.... appalling vocals and the songs are an untuneful dirge. I've got as far as the 5th track and given in. :-(

Released a few days ago, this is my third listen to it and like their previous albums it takes a few to let it creep under your skin. Excellent Gazpacho once again.

Third album from Beggars Opera 1972. More typical song based prog rock of the era compared to the more symphonic prog of the earlier albums, especially Act One.

One of their earlier albums, this one is instantly accessible for anyone new to the band.

Average...

"Fact Finding Mission" by Trichotomy. Listening to the hi res version because I couldn't bother to go downstairs to fetch the LP. It's a great album although it is a little political.  The recorded sound quality is just wonderful, but that is to be expected as Naim Label take their recording seriously.

From Tidal:-

Jean-Michel Jarre - The Time Machine, without any information I'm assuming collaborations here as opposed to re-visits. I'm not too up on all the extra artists, but recognised some. Good electronica.

Also a bit average, some people will like it a lot though...

Streaming Wav..Really getting into this latest Fink album Hard Beleiver, superb recording as always with his albums, similar to his earlier stuff but with a more layered and atmospheric airy sound..great stuff.
