This one has not been out of the playlist since it was released a couple of weeks ago. Really engaging, well played and powerful space rock.
Great pop music, great pop voice and - even better - rhyming Madeline with battlin’. Now that's delivery!
I must 'fess up to having a schoolboy crush on her back in the day, never thought too much of the music though.
"told him not to fall in love, with this city....city..."
Fortunately, I did not take the lady vocalists advice, and I fell in love, with City. My wife and I saw Stuart, and his drummer, Richard Spaven, at Leeds College of Music, earlier this month. We couldn't make it to one of his evening gigs, but this afternoon guitar/drum clinic, Q/A session, more than made up for this. We were hit right in the chest, straight away, by Richards, drumming. He explained how he uses "broken Beats" from Hip Hop, which until now, has had no place in our music collection.
At the moment Richard seems to be trying to tie down Stuarts relatively loose style, to click tracks. "Clicks and broken beats" are Richards thing at the moment, and the interplay between the two is fascinating. This album will test your PRAT, to the limit, for sure.
Stuart just goes on doing his wonderful multi FX guitar thing, without trying to take Richard, too seriously. I was a bit skeptical at first, but this very innovative approach soon won me over and, I now think, I love this album, even more the Stuarts, Distilled, and Distilled Live.
Percussion, will never be the same for me.
We bought City, in both LP (with HD download code) and CD format, from Stuart after the session.
For jriver users, try it with the album cover 3D visualisations, you'll know which one when you see it!
Why not try it? 24 bit and LP are best. http://www.naimlabel.com/artist-stuart-mccallum.aspx
Thanks for taking the time to write this review, I'll make sure to check it out!
Right now listening to Jazz Masters "Bill Evans". This CD is a weird one in the sense that when I played it on my old system it seemed a little closes in and the sound was a little "thin". Not so through my US/SU. The sound is more than ok and my foot taps away...
Now listening to an interesting trio record...
My mistake it's a quartet - guitar, piano, bass, drums....apologies ....
The investment in the 24 bit version was worthwhile, a more full sound...

Really good heavy rock from this Madrid band, I have three of Toundra's albums to date and they are all worth the entrance fee.
Some of the albums from past couple of days, considering all sorts of digital replay options - Hugo, n-DAC, cables, power supplies, uSB-SPDIF converters etc.
Via Tidal, and sounding great. Annoying skips at the end of tracks on some albums, as if the track changes before the track actually ends. This is one of those albums:-
Richard Thompson Band - Semi-Detached Mock Tudor, live.
On CD:-
A little bit of brilliant "Soul Music" after a hard day at work..

+1
For those who like Black Crowes and the Stones.
Some refreshingly different opinions from the press on Tharaud's new recording of the Goldbergs. Personally, I find this among the best things he has ever done, and I can't say I've ever enjoyed a performance of the Goldbergs so much as the first time I listened through this disc.
That said, I find it hard to characterise the performance. It's a bit wild, craggy, with exaggerated emphases even to the point of carelessness so if you're looking for the smoothness of Angela Hewitt, look elsewhere. Instead, think of Tharaud's earlier Scarlatti disc.

I'm new to Calexico but I'm enjoying the trip so far. First listen to this one and I prefer their earlier stuff to this.
Had to have dinner and a break. Listened to these:
"Touch and Flee" by Neil Cowley Trio.
Such a good album!
Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. A great classic!
And now Dexter Gordon's "Go"!
Now listening to the 2nd disc with the 3rd and the 4th very enjoyable...

I could compare it also with Levit's one and I clearly prefer this one...

I have a feeling I will be enjoying this set. ( especialy on vinyl* ! ) Perhaps draw a parallel line to Gould's?
* Hopefully they put a high res. file on it.
