Mingus at Antibes. Quite a concert recording. Mingus leading his band - and can be heard while doing it! Just great!

Gentle early '70s folk.

(1970)

Keith Emerson doing his best (again) to fuse Rock and Jazz, organs and synthesisers, with classical music. I didn't realise until today that this one had been commissioned by the Newcastle Arts Council.

Havong a little Weezer trip. First up was "the blue album", then "the green album" and soon I will listen "Everything will be alright in the end".

I can still remember how very impressed I was with this album when it first came out and I played it to death. This debut album is possibly my favourite ELP.

(1974)

The expanded 2002 remaster that includes virtually the whole album in a live set from the Marquee club. Sound quality does not seem to have suffered from the mastering.

On CD:-

Boy by U2. One of my favourite albums from the era before they started with dance inspired music and Bono became Jesus-like.

Again from Tidal:-

Tori Amos - Strange Little Girls, I saw it earlier and hadn't heard it before. OK some good some not so tracks.

Followed by something I do know:-

Kraftwerk - The Man Machine

Current 93 - Soft black stars

Playing Disc 3 of 4 because I am in the mood for a couple of 'Dan albums. The Dynamic range of this 4 CD set up to 1980 is perfectly good. This particular Disc having an average DR of 12:

An excellent boxset with great sound. Still had to create playlists for each of the original Dan albums because you can't just listen to half of "Aja".

Yep I agree but if you are streaming that is no difficulty to sort out. I am happy to let the albums flow into one another as with the 3rd I am listening to now. It was quite interesting that they made a decision to put their first six albums '72 - '80 onto just four CDs and added a few tracks not heard previously (rather make a 6 CD box set). Anyway, at the time it solved a problem for me in replacing all those lost and stolen albums. It is cheaper to buy them all individually now of course.

I'm new to Calexico but I'm enjoying the trip so far. First listen to this one and I prefer their earlier stuff to this.

I had to listen to this three times before I appreciated how good it is.

7th is supposed to be OTT.

That's why I like the 8th better.

If you find Karajan too much, then you'd hate Toscanini and Cantelli's 7th.

Try Wand/NDR or Bohm/Vienna Phil's Mozartian 7th. Both are elegant renditions without being insipid.

Thanks, for the tips I will test it against Bernstein, Chailly, Abbado, Kleiber and Haitink .... Which I own....
