Nice laid-back modern jazz for a Saturday morning. A great partnership.

Ozric Tentacles   -The Hidden Step

                         &

Tangle Edge   "Eulogy"   on compact disc.

I like the way out of the chaos, the instruments are sharply etched and distinct, on the Ozric's album.

The music on "Eulogy" is austere in comparison, darker, and rather hypnotic.

I fancy a blast of some angry early 70s jazz - the Miles Davis Complete Jack Johnson Sessions seems to fit the bill nicely.

Solitude: Baroque Cello - Michal Stahel

Michel Stahel: Arpeggio in g; Song of solitude; La folia
Domenico Gabrieli: Ricercar Nr. 7
Domenico Galli: Sonata Nr. 2
Johann Sebastian Bach: Suite für Cello solo BWV 1011
Joseph Marie Clemens Dall'Abaco: Capriccios Nr. 1, 1, 5
Francesco Paolo Supriano: Toccaten Nr. 7, 10, 11

This recording may take a few playings to accustom my ear to the sound which I find rather reverberant.  I don't believe Gramola recorded this and it seems it is licensed from Pavlik Records and this might explain it or is it intentional?

Stahel is playing on an Anthony Posch (Vienna ca. 1720) baroque cello which was recently found and restored.  The interesting lineage is that this was the cello of Prince Paul II Anton Esterházy de Galántha who in fact appointed Joseph Haydn as Vice-Kapellmeister, in charge of his orchestra in the court.  Today, of course we all can experience the results of men like this who were patrons of the arts and music.

True there are better ones - but still the playing on this CD is enjoyable...

Yes, but his style of play and his pianism bores me too fast

Listening to Sokolov is an other world, no doubt.
