Yes first distorted guitar in history, I believe.

Don't know exactly what you mean by distorted guitar but the man who invented power chords was Link Wray. Kinks were a great band though.

"Power chords" have nothing to do with distortion, although they are (very) often played that way.  A power chord is a chord fingering that uses only the root and the fifth of the scale.

Some early morning listening.

Amadeus Qaurtett: Two String Quartets: Smetana  No.1 & Dvořák No.12 *American*  1978 Release

Grown up and measured fluid presentation from the seasoned players.

First time listening to Dvorak's *American* and it's lovely.

Perhaps slightly sophisticated for the turn of the century American rustic vista but the tunes are bittersweet with a great simplicity. These are less weepy than the composer's 'From the New World'.

I'll take this from the man who knows his guitar. Regarding Kinks which one is it? For me distortion is something I can hear e.g. on the song Revolution by the Beatles.

Elton John. Live In Australia. On CD from 1987. The performance starts out a bit lean but builds a nice energy as the concert progresses.

Francesco Piemontesi's Préludes is likely to end up as 2015's best piano release, for me - performance is up there with Zimerman and Gieseking, in demonstration quality sound.

The last album that this noise rock band made which is no great loss really.

Edit*. I should revise my earlier comment, it is actually not too bad at all, albeit rather different.

New Order, "Music Complete" super deluxe box (arrived just this morning). Double album on clear vinyl, plus six different coloured vinyl remix 12"-ers, book, prints etc.

I'm listening to the main album. Bloody marvellous.

That was a very pleasant hour or so with CD 2 (the live CD) of this Santana III - Legacy Edition. This second CD features the original lineup playing at the Filmore West in July '71, great stuff.

Just as well you weren't playing "Glad Rag Doll" then.

A glorious combination of blues, country, folk and bluegrass. Sounds weird until you hear it!
