This is a lovely album by SH, I like to give it an airing every now and again.
When my dealer presented the 250DR together with the 272 a while ago, they played a lot of beautiful music, but it was Harry Belafonte which made the greatest impression. What a charismatic character he is! Laughing, singing, telling captivating stories and really entertaining the audience - which in turn responds, clearly amused. "Harry Belafonte Live at Carnegie Hall" is a fantastic album.
The LP reissue from Living Stereo is supposed to be quite special but so far I'm enjoying the ripped cd.
Thanks for putting me onto this album. Most enjoyable, great charisma, great backing musicians and well recorded to boot.
Green Day, America Idiot, really loud and sounding fantastic, cuz its Friday! 24 bit flac via audirvana/hugo
Out of print album, but found it on Tidal.
One of the best recordings for Schubert's last piano sonata - D.960
Perahia’s soft playing makes it sounds so humanity.
BP.
Indeed BP, a wonderful recording. Especially the Andante Sostenuto can drive me to tears!
Schubert passed away two months after he wrote this, only 31 years old..... What music could he have brought us if he had lived on!
R.I.P. Franz!

Just downloaded from HD Tracks. Two tracks into it and absolutely loving it.
Glenn Gould: The Art of the Fugue 1-9 1962 recording
Relatively low noise floor and in spite the Dolby NR remastering, maintaining a decent clarity Organ is close mic’d in that very little hall ambience coming through and a bit light weight on low registers.
Compact and tidy organ playing and light weight organ tones make this set rhythmic and even at times comical.
On a whole, tho, this reading is too frantic for me as Gould does not let the notes breath. Certainly that it has a carnival like atmosphere in relative to Sokolov’s Funeral eulogy like tone.
Wish he re-recorded this like he did with the Goldberg Variations which shows maturity in his interpretation.
It's a real pity that Glenn never recorded the entire Kunst der Fuge. I like the recent Angela Hewitt, although she's not perfect.
I'm still looking for the best recording for this master piece. Any advice guys?

Helmut Walcha on DG.

I hope you enjoy this!
One of my Desert Island discs!
George,
Thank you for the recommendation.
I will, for sure, give it a proper listen.

I am prepared to say that Walcha on the Organ will outclass the majority of piano based efforts. Certainly every one that I have come across.
Happy searching. ATB from George
PS: Further into the exchange I also suggested the Decca recording under Karl Munchinger with the Stuttgart Orchestra of a wonderful orchestra realisation that is simply glorious, even if now mostly fifty years old. No Stokowski-esque fireworks, but simply setting the lines for clarity on suitable instruments and the performance makes a very clear case for one line each for a person or small section playing musically with finesse.
Thanks George!
I did add a PS to my post. It will be of value I feel sure!

Enjoying this new one on ECM - ambient, electronics, sax, percussion.
Excellent extended 24/96 version of this album.
My first Supertramp album (then on vinyl) and in my view still their best.

Yep totally agree.
Amadeus Quartet: Dvorak String Quartet Op.96 'American' 1978 release
Listening to this tune again. I love its *American Western* friendly and sweet melody line.
Somewhat appropriate for upcoming Thanks Giving.
Dire Straits. Making Movies. On original vinyl from 1980. Brilliant album. To paraphrase David Fricke's Rolling Stone review "If Making Movies really were a film, it'd win Academy Awards"

A great album from a great band I don't see mentioned here often. Among the best of "rock operas".

Yes, one of the best DS records for sure.
Just can't get enough of this brilliant box set. Beautifully performed and recorded; and depth and consistent quality of songwriting that is truly stunning. I can't recommend this one highly enough. She's a real treasure.
