Massive Attack - Blue Lines.

Seeing them in Leeds in January, ought to be memorable.

Doug,

I agree.

Surprisingly Jarrett’s classical music effort is rather safe and certainly not as adventurous as Gulda or even Feltzman. He demonstrates well that he’s an accomplished self diciplined artist who can cross over the genre. But what’s missing here is a certain kind of humanism. Bach music is more compelling when I hear a hint of hot blood behind these notes rather than presented in too orderly fashion.

Given that I am no fan of Jarrett's bread'n'butter jazz work because of his lack of funkiness. Chick Corea or Herbie Hancok, OTOH, might have been able to pump more soul into this. Self effacing Jarrett style for me is undeniably dull as everything is even-tempered.

Usual ECM high standard recording with exceptional clarity and dynamics as if the instrument being played in a real time in a real space, but his performance does not move me one iota.

Helmut Walcha: Bach Preludes, Fugues, Pastorale 1970 recording

I haven't track down his George recommended Art of Fugue yet but I had a few Walcha records in the house.

This is indeed very nice. There are enough note decays and ambiance of the hall with spacious atmosphere. This Silbermann organ has a rich holographic warm tone which never sounds cheap or cheezy.

Walcha's plying is very much open and great clarity on this organ. Very well balanced from top to bottom. Brilliant but not theatrical. And there is a certain friendliness to his playing.

I do quite like his style so far.

Hank Williams: Let me Sing a Blue Song

A change of pace with some straight up country tunes.

Hank III is also in the music biz and He plays acid country metal! as well as does honky tonk.
