Originally released in 1977, mine is a Polydor mid-price release, catalogue number 2482 488. Notwithstanding this fact, it's a cracking recording and a good pressing.

An excellent album. That reminds me:

   Another cracker IMO.

Just been enjoying the feature on Robert Wyatt on Claire Martin's programme 'Jazz Line-Up' on BBC R3. Although I do own a few Soft Machine albums, I'm definitely going to have to explore more of his solo work. Quite beautiful.

Not my favorite version, but definitely entertaining...

Browsing my CD rack this caught my eye and I realised I'd not played any Tull for quite a while.  This 40th Anniversary version is as fine a CD reproduction of this classic album as I've heard. So many great songs on here: Cross-Eyed Mary, My God, Wond'ring aloud and of course Locomotive Breath

I downloaded this a couple of days ago - it's a terrific album. I was a bit apprehensive over how the orchestration would work with the Oud, but there was no need for concern, it's super.

You're right, it's excellent, both the Pictures and the Fantasie. Schumann's Fantasie is one of my yardsticks: hard to play technically and hard to bring off musically with so many interpretative choices. A true test for any musician. I have countless recordings of this work, but if I'm in a really critical frame of mind, not many that completely convince me. I'll give it a few months for a verdict, but it looks like Lewis may end up with my top favorites. (But both these works are like diamonds: by emphasizing facets, others remain unseen. So a ranking is really not so useful.)

Cheers,

EJ

As some of you may have detected I am not only a Dylan fan but also a reggae fan.

So it is no real surprise that this is one of my favourite Dylan albums. Turn it up and play it loud with the grooves and reggae beat of Sly and Robbie combined with some great Mick Taylor and fine Mark Knopfler.

p.s. On vinyl.

IMHO Tharaud is not a top class pianist.

True there are better ones - but still the playing on this CD is enjoyable...

Yes, but his style of play and his pianism bores me too fast

Listening to Sokolov is an other world, no doubt.

Beg to differ. I think that Tharaud delivers here a brilliant performance, capturing and expressing the varying waltz colors with plenty of depth and lyricism.
