Ernestine Anderson ; Big City

This must be one of the most swingin' albums ever made. Ernestine's timing is perfect and the rhythm section with Hank Jones, Monty Budwig and Jeff Hamilton is killing.

No reason. Just a whim.

Jimi Hendrix 'Nine to the Universe' vinyl LP, part of the 1980 box set. Simply because I haven't played it for a very long time.

I felt like was picking upgrade options for a car.    I decided this was my limit though.  No 30 Trips USB for me.

A friend, who is also a Ray Lamontagne fan, loaned me this CD but warned that compared to his earlier albums it was disappointing, the reproduction quality being very disappointing (on the Sony label). He was right.  I can't recommend this.

I noticed someone on here (might have been Tony2011) giving this a play recently and it's prompted me to dig out my copy.  Sounds pretty good, too.

Bobby Womack: The Poet II  1984 release

From the album cover art, I was expecting some cheezy 80s synth. pop but not at all. Many tunes are hugely gospel influenced with powerful voice of Patti Labelle, the album is filled with funky power ballad in  a striding tempo.

Ends with a tune called 'American Dream' with the voice clip from Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous speech under over Womack's soulful voice.

Now, I only can't wait to see what our Mr. Alexander Tharaud will do with these Goldberg's and whether the vinyl will be as glorious?

Doug,

Thanks for your report. I've got my copy last week but haven't had a chance to listen. I don't know what other version you are talking about but Razor & Tie is the same as the import version Sony reissue sourced from the analogue tape. Razor & Tie distributed copy in the US is priced at 30$.

Last week, I also scored Helmut Walcha & Silvia Marlowe's Goldberg Variations so I am going to add to the mix with Tharaud's new set.

I agree with you on that I prefer Gould's '81 reading over his trail blazing '55 set.

He sure has evolved from his Strong R&B influenced debut album for sure. An artist never stays put in one place.
