IMHO Tharaud is not a top class pianist.

True there are better ones - but still the playing on this CD is enjoyable...

Yes, but his style of play and his pianism bores me too fast

Listening to Sokolov is an other world, no doubt.

Beg to differ. I think that Tharaud delivers here a brilliant performance, capturing and expressing the varying waltz colors with plenty of depth and lyricism.

Indeed that's why I like it, i can' tell you if it's according to the text book, but I listen to it more often while having other versions....

Very enjoyable fluid and round tone...

I agree with you - I think this new one is outstanding - a grower - beautiful and melancholic.

There's no one like Harnoncourt when it comes to exciting performances of the symphonies of Mozart and Haydn. A lot has been said about his ideas of merging the last three symphonies into a single 'oratorium' - I find it a bit gimmicky but especially in these performances, I can buy into the feeling that the works are connected.

My dentist is considering this music for his waiting room.

I think the 55 version is better than the 81 version, but both are great performances....

Burn. Flicker. Die.

Normally Bob James is a bit cheesy, but this album is great...., with an unsurpassed drum solo from Steve Gadd

Debs

Continuing on with my tour of LZs studio albums from the 1993 CD box set. Enjoyed Physical Graffiti earlier today. Now onto In Through The Out Door. Probably the LZ album I'm most familiar with and remember anticipating it's release in 1979 which was, as I recall, an exceptional year for rock albums.

The final disc (10) on my tour of LZ's Complete Studio Recordings. CODA was not always well received by the hard-core LZ fans I knew, but I've liked it without criticism. Even better on vinyl (true of most things music).

Jimi Hendrix. People, Hell and Angels. On two 200-g vinyls. I love this LP. Incredible energy, soulfulness, and musical involvement in every track. My favorite purchase of 2013.

The Band. Greatest Hits. 24-bit CD remaster from 2000. Good recordings. Big bottom end. Inspired by some recent posts of The Band.

Beatles. Love. On CD from 2006. Great album cover. Been a long while since I listened to this. It's one of my kid's CD and they were both into it at the time. Nice to see a reinvention of the Beatles music to reach a new audience. As an old-schooler, I liked the sampling and cross-mixing, and was especially struck by the clarity and new revelations I heard in 'I Am The Walrus'. I'd like to see the Cirque du Soleil show.
