Unfortunately the Dead have always been one band I struggle to get into so I am probably the last person you should ask whether or not if this is good.

For me it is ok but I think Dead fans will love it.

Perhaps not all - there is a certain contingent of hard core Dead fans who are not impressed with the post-Jerry tour at all.  I work with a guy who followed the Dead on the road for a couple of years back in the 90s and owns God knows how many albums (you literally can't ask him about one that he doesn't know including many bootlegs) he got a button or sticker (I forget which) that proudly proclaims "I wasn't there" pertaining to the Soldier Field event.

That said, I went to a Dead Head dominated college back in the late 70s, and I have a hard time believing those folks didn't love the reunion...these are folks who would buy a recording of Phil Lesh farting!

It does look like a beautifully put together package...

That button sounds like a worthwhile purchase!  To be honest, I was really on the fence about this one, but decided to get it anyway.  I think the collector bug took hold of my credit card.  Going in with an open mind though.

Is there any better Who style rock? As Keith Moon said, he's the best Keith Moon style drummer in the world.

I'm currently reading Pete Townshend's autobiography and yesterday morning played Who's Next through the NDS, from a ripped copy of the 1995 remastered CD and thought it sounded quite poor, lacking the punch that I remember from the original vinyl release. So when I was in town yesterday I bought a copy of the new 180g vinyl release, and that's just as bad but for different reasons. The bass on the new vinyl copy is dreadfully muddled; it is so bad that for most of the album it's impossible to hear what the Ox is actually playing. I wonder now if it's just my memory deceiving me, or was there ever a good mastering of this classic album?

Yep there is good masterings out there. You just have to know which ones they are. My fav are the Japanese 1st pressings which justs blasts out of the speakers of the SHM Sacd. The Hoffman version is higly regarded and can be had quite cheaply

I heard an original vinyl of this last weekend belonging to a friend and we were both disappointed at how 'flat' it sounded. Most of his original vinyl e.g. plum label Led Zep, sounded excellent but not this Who album.  Pity.

Some DS for the afternoon.  Trying out a 300DR in my system and I must say I've never heard this album sound so good

Some more Donald Fagen, once again another super album if only the mastering was up to the excellent standards of the early Nightfly releases which have way less compression.

FKM was just released in the past couple weeks.  Jenny, Nate, and Chris of the Decembrists all have active interests outside the main group.  If you aren't aware they also perform and record in a group named Black Prairie who have I believe 3 releases available.  Glad you are enjoying TKID.
