Another quite different one

Extract from an interview:

"The European: You named your new album, “Aelita”, after an old Russian synthesizer. Is this Mando Diao’s farewell to classic guitar rock?

Björn: No, it’s not. We never close the door on anything. We grew up in the 1990s and therefore with a lot of diversity in music and culture. We grew up with Bob Marley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, James Brown, country music, and of course electronic music like trip hop that became popular during the 1990s. So we do not feel like we belong to a specific genre."

Great isn't it. I'm on a J.J Cale binge and loving it. Just need to work out how to bookmark favourites rather than re-searching each time.

Earlier today:

Lelya McCalla:    Vari-Colored Songs,   A tribute to Langston Hughes

(2014) CD

From the album's notes:

Leyla McCalla is cellist and singer based out of New Orleans, LA.  A New York native of Haitian descent, Leyla's songs speak to her heritage and to her connection with Black, Caribbean, and Creole culture.

The album is a tribute that includes Hughe's poetry, Haitian folk songs and original songs.

Looking further through the notes she plays cello, tenor banjo, and guitar throughout the album.

I came across this looking through other folks albums on Amazon and decided to try it after listening to a few samples.  Traditional folk.  I've only listened to it 2-3 times, but worth repeated listens.

Followed by Patty Griffin - Servant of Love

(2015) CD.   Compares favorably to her other albums.  But I'm probably biased in that regard.  Need to give this more listens.

Now:  Silversun Pickups   -   Better Nature

(2015) CD

Heard them do an interview on WKNC 88.1.  Enjoyed the interview, so let's buy the album.

Not really familiar with the band.  First listen.  Indie rock/pop.

(1987)

Prompted by dayjay's post earlier, this one on original '87 EMI CD that really sounds very good indeed.

I hope that you get your picture posting problems sorted deejay. If using Amazon photo links are not "sticking" and you are using posting protocols then I'm not sure what's going wrong for you.

Bit of Led Zep for the evening. I can still remember the first time I heard this album, or more accurately a song from it.  TV Times said it was to feature on the Old Grey Whistle. I eagerly awaited the programme and was rewarded by Uncle Bob playing No Quarter

Will Butler - Policy

(2015) CD

Member of Arcade Fire, first solo ablum. Only have listened a few times, but a good album.  The second track, Anna, is the catchiest tune from the outset.  Need to listen a few more times.

Now:   Moon Taxi -  Daybreaker

(2015) CD

New to me band.  First listen.  Indie Pop.

Prompted by FangfossFlyer's earlier playing of this.  Very many years ago I saw Free at Portsmouth Guildhall when they performed most of this album.  What I particularly remember was they played at a fairly moderate volume level.  In those days I was used to my ears ringing for an hour or so after each concert but Free departed from the 'norm' and their performance was still superb.
