I enjoyed their self-titled debut album very much indeed, so I'm going to give Lunatic Soul II a go.

Great album...

Having started with King Curtis as the warm up, I decided to invest in the main event.

Repro is sharp and vibrant on the Speakers Corner vinyl version.

..King Curtis is more fun to my ears though.

And now for something completely different....

Haven't played any Family in a while.  The song Spanish Tide on this album is a particular favourite of mine.

Having enjoyed one Family album, it's prompted me to reach for another. Holding The Compass is another of my favourite Family songs.

Really getting into this band (Lunatic Soul), so much good music, so many themes going on. All four of their albums into a checkout basket.

Bill Frisell's guitar takes me back to this one from 1990.

I never tire of listening to this album...Simply a marterpiece even when considering the circumstances under which  it was recorded.

I'm starting to love this album. The Yes album

Johnny Cole : Little Johnny C  1963 release

  • Johnny Coles - trumpet
  • Leo Wright - alto saxophone, flute
  • Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone
  • Duke Pearson - piano
  • Bob Cranshaw - bass
  • Pete La Roca , Walter Perkins - drums

I love this album because it's not only Coles' sensitive playing but it's hard bop at its best mixed with such a tender tune like 'So Sweet My Little Girl' ( tribute for Pearson's 7 year old daughter). Written mostly by Duke Pearson except for Henderson's Hobo this album showcases piano solo and how it interface with trumpet.

Coles only made one Blue Note record as a leader and this is as good as it gets.

Duke Pearson died rather young from MS but he left these beautifully written tunes.

Gary Graffman/Walter Hendl/CSO: Beethoven Piano Concerto No.3 1972 Release

Brisk and modern sounding. Piano enters huffy with a chip on his shoulder. Finer and leaner tonally than Backhaus and it does not have the presence of giant entering the room. Springier and lighter touch keys.

Overall the orchestra does not have a classy flair or lyricism. This is a good generic but youthful version.

Artur Schnabel/Issay Dobrowen/Philharmonia: Beethoven Piano Concerto No.3   1947 Recording

Not flashy but livelier than many. undoubtedly it feels dated and sounds very vintage a minute the music starts now but Schnabel’s sensitive dynamic shading is intact.

Over all, too frilly for my taste. Snappy but Ho hum first movement with choppy finger work, followed by torturously slow but beautifully poignant 2nd movement and compromised 3rd movement due to poor recording quality and his vague note articulation.

Still listening to this for the first time but I am pretty sure it will be saved as a favourite on my Tidal album listing. Talented Lady.

We saw her live earlier this year. One of the best concerts I've ever been too. She's just brilliant.
