Looks like a bit moe difficult to get access to, but seems to be quite promising as well. This will definitely not the last time I will hear this one...

Pink Floyd - Momentary Lapse of Reason

Richard Thompson - Shoot Out The Lights

This is surprisingly very good. Good musicianship and well recorded.

One of my lesser-played Dire Straits albums, though it's sounding very night indeed this evening.

A fave of mine, Mike. And it's not often one sees North End and Nassau in the same sentence  ;-)

Best,

Kraftwerk - Computer World

And having enjoyed Communique earlier I had to reach for another early DS album.  This particular CD is a Japanese import (a excellent recommendation from ewemon) and it sounds superb.

This is a bit spooky. Earlier this evening I was playing Johnny Cash American Series IV and V (Steve J, above) and now I'm playing Pink Floyd 'A Momentary Lapse of Reason' (BigH47, above). I hope I don't have a sudden desire to play Dire Straits, Al Di Meola or Pat Metheney and Charlie Haden next.

Fazil Say/Gianadrea Noseda: Frankfurt Radio Symphony : Beethoven Piano Concerto No.3  2014 release.

Fazil Say is one of a few living pianist with an excellent facility for an improvisation. Two Sonatas included in this disc ( No.32 & dreaded No.14) are non starters for me, but his 3rd piano concerto brings fresh modern perspective to this old war horse.

Say as I expected it has a youthful dare devil attitude almost like young Gould but even faster at clocking a tad over 32 min. As Gould he offers his own multi-faceted cadenza but takes it even further than Gould. It is centered around the soloist rather than collaboration with an orchestra. Say never makes an apology for being a shining star leading the tune and the band as if the composer would have played. There is a sense of free spirit and thrilling adventure. Say does not give any room for the last chord in Largo to linger around in that the Rondo rudely cuts in. It is loosely structured and in playful not taking anything serious than usual buttoned up heroic stance. Absolute fun roller coaster ride and certainly this is different.

I wish more pianist gives their own cadenza.

Muti/Philly : Tchaikovsky Sym. 4  / Scriabin Prometheus

Still trying to get a handle on Tchaikovsky's 4th symphony. It's so loud and garrish, the finale reminds me of Moulin Rouge Can-Can dance mixed with Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Scriabin's Prometheus, OTOH, is nicely self contained story telling.

Gulda's Mozart is like a musical oasis after the heavy Russian program.

Every note delivered without any ambiguity and with a great clarity yet he retains spontaneity and life.

In some way he's a bit like Kempff. ( but with a chip on his shoulder )

Try Gulda's Mozart if you haven't already. He's one of the greatest conduit for Mozart tunes making them  more accessible for me.

Uchida: Mozart Sonata  KV576  1984 recording

Nimble and softer than Gulda.

Her notes are always polite and well behaved and they land ever so gently. Compared to sunny out going Pires or Gulda, Uchida is more of an introvert and quiet type. The tone of piano is creamy rather than crystalline and sparkly.

The Doors. Strange Days (1967). On HDCD from 1999. I have 1985 and 2007 versions of this CD and this, the Bernie Grundman remaster, has the best SQ of the three. Clean, distinct bass and a notable clarity in the mix.

You very well described it. That's by the way why I prefer her Mozart Piano Sonatas over those of Pires.
