Ormandy/Philly: Sibelius Symphony 2  1957 Recording

'Tis the Season... Getting back to Sibelius again.

Puzzling that the composer was endorsing Ormandy's euphonic pastel coloured rendition of this score.

Jono McCleery - Pagodes cover

Jono McCleery - Pagodes on vinyl - mesmeric - slays flac lossless on my Superuniti.
Sota Comet w/ Eroica H cart via (Phono box - don't judge me!) into a SuperUniti ...

Good album Simon and you have reminded me to put it into the playlist. If you get a chance, have a listen to their previous one "Cognitive", it's available on Deezer Elite so I imagine Tidal might have it too.

As ever, Hopkinson Smith's playing is superb. He has a great delicacy of touch bringing out all the nuances of this late 16th century lute music.

J.S. Bach Suites and Partitas

I'm not sure if Segovia himself transcribed these for the guitar or not, however they are beautifully played and interpreted with warmth and great feeling.

Rather different to their earlier albums, this one is slightly darker in it's haunting themes and sounds.

It took a while for this old CD to arrive but it was well worth the wait. Many thanks to Mr. Fjeld who jogged my memory and reminded me about it and when the family was listening to it more than fifty years ago. The recording and SQ on this live album which is almost sixty years old, is excellent.

Mike

Sorry, I missed your post Mike.

This is part of a trilogy: Discipline(81), Beat(82) and Three of a Perfect Pair(84). All three albums  are quite similar and as far as some tracks are quite "pop-like" due to their frenetic electronic-dancing beats experimentation  but distinctively KC. I quite like the album but of the three I very much prefer Beat which I find more like the KC I am used to from ITOKC to Lizard era. The critics would say otherwise, but who listens to them?
