Mehta/NYP : Original Soundtrack Manhattan 1979 Release
A side, of course is the Rhapsody in Blue but the B side is a beautifully put together fun medley of Gershwin's popular tunes.

Mancini: Pink Panther Original Soundtrack 1963 Release
Fashionably retro now and sounds fabulous on this original RCA Dynagroove release.

Jimi Hendrix. Blues. On CD from 1994. Despite Monday morning having an idiomatic strangle hold on the blues, I find late on a Saturday night an especially suitable time to play them.

Bernstein/NYP: Sibelius Symphony No.2 1966 Recording
Nothing stands still under Lenny and keeping the suspense. New develepment happening one after another. Also there is a Loki like mischievous undertone. Tight tension is maintained through 2nd movement with wide, expressive dynamics altho sounds a bit like a mid century film score at times. The melody and themes are easy to follow due to a clear organisation, outlining of themes and steady time keeping. The music sounds faster because of his exciting explosive styling.
Lenny in his prime and vitality it's very *American* but his direct and gutsy rolling with the punches sort of style gives the score fresh perspective different from suave European readings. I would have loved to hear this performance live.

Gibson/Scottish National Orchestra: Sibelius Symphony No.2 1970 recording
Lush and well mannered not too dissimilar from Barbirolli set but less fluid and lacking substance.
Everything sounds too nice and gentle even at the time of conflict. Missing is an inner strength for the final build in that the climax sounds a bit like Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet romance scene.
I usually like Gibson's direction for Elgar work but this Sibelius set isn't doing it for me.

For me nothing can compare to their first few early 70s albums but this recent one is pretty good as long as you are not expecting another Argus.

Daniel Romano - If I've Only One Time Askin'
(2015) CD First listen. Picked it up at a record shop on the clerk's recommendation when we were discussing City and Colour's if i should go before you. He has played with Dallas Green in the past as a backing musician and on the album Bring Me Your Love.
Best I can classify this is as traditional country.
