Why? Because it is one of the greatest recordings from an outstanding pianist of our times.

Maybe only 1 is comparable with his art.

I was lucky to hear him in concert this summer, he's an outstanding pianist indeed.

2 x LP - FineMusic 2010 : )

A lack of the usual seasonal slushy sentiment is welcomed by relaxed and sympathetic melancholy, and as cool as fresh snow musicianship.

This is going to get a few plays this month : )

Stokowski/Symphony of the Air ( NBC Orchestra ): Brahms Serenade No.1  1960 Recording

First time listening to Brahms's Serenade No.1 which is written when Brahms was just 25.

It feels a bit of a hodgepodge of many different composer's style. Outer movements have Beethoven like feel ( Pastoral opening movement and he even quotes Ode to Joy in the final movement ) and Baroque style and Mozart influences on a strolling and expansive Andante whist he paints it over it with romantic lush orchestration.

The intro of Scherzo reminds me of his Piano Concerto 2 Allegro intro which he wrote 22 years later.

Stokowski's direcion whilst not lush it has an awful lot of smeared vagueness and pastel hues, I would have liked it with more liveliness and colours.

The Beatles. The Beatles (1968). On Capitol orange label vinyl from 1978. The music is much more creative than the album jacket lets on.

It was an even better price for their Apollo gig as it was free for me but yes those were the days.

CD 2 of 3 of what is a very nice discovery (for me) of Can's lost tapes, so far from CD 1 it has been mostly very good.
