Where would we be without the Kuijken Bros.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Hypnotic Eye. On vinyl from 2014. I originally bought the CD and was miffed with the SQ. Later bought the LP and find the mastering more enjoyable; much less compressed.

Sibelius Symphonies 6 & 7 / BPO / Karajan

Because today was the great man's 150th birthday and he's one of my desert island composers.

Stone Temple Pilots / Purple

Thinking about Scott Weiland and his untimely demise. STP were an unfairly maligned band IMO ("Clone Temple Pilots" etc.), and this album holds up well more than 20 years after its release.

Haitink/Concertgebouw: Brahms Serenade No.1  1970 Recording

As most of Haitink's Philips era output, this is pretty bland and ineffective. Altho, to his defense I am not certain if this is as strong as other Brahm's later symphonic work.

I probably have to listen to more readings but in spite this score has a lot of Brahm's signature sound but not quite well developed.

Rush. Hemispheres. On vinyl from 1978. Neil Peart wrote some brilliant lyrics, "The Trees" one of my favorites.

Pink Floyd. Wish You Were Here (1975). On half-speed mastered vinyl from 1982. My only CBS Mastersound LP, its an interesting combination of analog with early digital technology. Many other Mastersound LPs have been maligned but this seems to reign as an exception. Impressive SQ. Very fast and clean.

(2013)

Tracks selected from his 2012 solo tour where he particularly chose small venues, playing, talking and sharing stories (both ways) with the audiences. He played only with recorded backing tracks, no band. Very interesting and very good.

I never really "got" this when it was first released time to have another go at it.
