Now listening to a great album of Phronesis - Life to Everything...

Two-CD "deluxe" edition of landmark 1979 album, packed with extras. Why am I listening to it? Because it's always worth revisiting...

After Tidal threw a wobbly, firstly not finding albums then  playing but no output, I finally got some sense out of it:-

Beth Hart - Better Than Home.

From 1969 in the days before Gillan and Glover.

Ella at her best - a magnificent, 1960 recording. Why can't they do this sort of recording these days?

Posted on: 09 December 2015 by Steve J

My favourite new discovery.

WAV

(1973)

Arguably their last decent studio album and it is good.

I know, 50 years and we seem to have learned nothing. The late 50's jazz recordings are just lovely. And that Ella album is great.

From Bandcamp, good music, sound a bit edgy..

While I already mentioned before that I don't like this album so much given the quality of the songs, I also have to say the songs sound a bit like not belonging to each other - disjointed, as if not being part of one album....

Now into a great trio jazz album....

Whilst I agree that the SQ of this and many Jazz albums of this era are some of the best ever recorded the Stereo separation can be a little primitive. The Mono recordings tend to be better.

I prefer the James Gang and Joe Walsh's early solo albums over the Eagles.

This is a superb album. The wonderful Julia Hulsmann and singing too.

Jim White - Drill a hole in that substrate ..

After listening to a couple of newly acquired Calexico albums, I dusted this one off.  Kind of a more spaced-out Americana / Southern gothic feel.

Have heard them live together this year, just for an encore, but have to say I like it..., and this album so far in first run doesn't dissapoint....

James Taylor - Hour Glass

One of his best IMO

If you like world music you should try this. It's a beautiful live recording, where you can hear the sound of passing cars, and the calls of night creatures. It's so atmospheric, and the music - kora and cello - is just superb. Highly recommended!

Love the way Gia explodes out of the speakers.

Agree, Steve. Although I missed it when first released,  I listened to this album for the first time around 1974/5 and it is still my favourite JG & Walsh's album.
