Enjoying this on vinyl . . .

I can't recommend this highly enough. Kelly & Montgomery at the top of their game and a superb live recording.

Christmas sherry time I think.

Mr Mehldau in a more unusual setting - gets mixed reviews but I've played in a lot since its release.

New Order - Music Complete - on Tidal.

Good to see them back on form again.

Because he is an acoustic guitarist (and writer) of staggering ability.

great recording - like it

Agree there Mike. I don't think they ever bettered that first album. It must be played loud and play air drums on Barbarian.

Sorry I understand that some people on here hate +1 but nether the less  +1 +1 +1

Very many years ago I saw ELP perform this album live, hence my fondness for it.  While there were only three of them in the band, I had never seen so many speaker-cabinets on stage before. And they were one of the loudest bands I ever heard, exceeding even Deep Purple!

When I fancy some early Genesis I usually reach for Nursery Cryme, Trespass, Trick of the Tail or Selling England by the Pound - all superb - so for a change I went for Foxtrot this evening.

And I usually reach for 'Foxtrot' or 'Live' or The Lamb.

We all have different tastes, but at least we all love early Genesis.

(2015) CD     First Listen.

Hurray For The Riff Raff  - Small Town Heroes

(2014)  CD    Found this in one of the Amazon feeds when I was purchasing Eilen Jewell and Dave Rawlings Machine albums.  Falls under the Folk/Americana/Indie umbrella.  I really like it.  Will check out some more from the band.

Hi Iconoclast,

Thanks for the recommendation.  Already a big fan of Carolina Chocolate Drops.  Good to see others like them too.

Best regards,

Pat

Rostropovich/Ormandy: Shostakovich Cello Concerto No.1  1959 recording

Rostropovich is the dedicatee for this concerto and he is the star through and through.

Even the recording balance caters to Rostropovich. Sony has done an excellent remastering here and surprisingly cello has a warm tonal balance with excellent presence. Ormandy’s direction is unusually rhythmic. Maybe Rosropovich keeping them on their toes? All the rest of the instrument is basically playing a second fiddle to the cello.
