The Blind Boys of Alabama - Go Tell It On The Mountain

(2008)  CD

This is normally out of stock at amazon during the holidays.  This year is no exception.  I remember buying this in the summer to avoid this dilemma.

Good album.  Nice collaborations with Tom Waits, Chrissie Hynde & Richard Thompson, Shelby Lynne, George Clinton, etc.

(2000)

Arguably her best album despite it being the debut. Goldfrapp albums always lurking on the playlist here.

Shawn Colvin "A Few Small Repairs"

Paul McCartney. Flowers In The Dirt. DMM vinyl from 1989. Musically one of McCartney's better albums and might be the best for SQ. His voice sounds especially good, nice timbre to the strings, and a room enveloping sound stage.

The album with the fullest piano sound in my collection....

Talking of full piano, I've just been listening to this.  Among other things, the piano on this album is fabulous, revealing just what a powerful instrument it is. Tori is obviously a fan of the instrument as it features prominently on many of her albums.

Err, that's because she plays it. It's like saying that Miles Davis was a fan of the trumpet, or Charlie Haden rather liked the bass.

Well yes. But Tori has her own interpretation of how to play the instrument, just like Charlie and Miles. She also has exquisite taste in pianos. She's been playing Bosendorfers her whole career, basically.

The Honey Dewdrops - silver linings

(2012)   CD

First listen.  In the folk genre.  Husband & wife duo.  Happened across this album.  Very good impression on first go round.  Looking forward to listening to it further.

John Fahey has an interesting take on acoustic guitar.  Utterly captivating and fresh.  The Vanguard lp has terrific sound.  My copy has quite a few pops but the music overpowers it with a big sound...a lot like several of the much played 50s jazz records I own.
