Missed seeing him in concert once because he was finishing off his Netherlands album and cancelled the gig last second.

Caruso making a gramophone recording: a self caricature, 1902

From the Best of Caruso: 1904-1920 recordings

Going back further in time, I am very much fond of Caruso's buttery warm voice. First superstar to sell many records.
This remastered LP off the original masters sound pretty good even on a modern playback machine.

Victor had the best success by manufacturing both the software, hardware and creating a strong distribution channel. 1910 celebrity endorsement for both the record and the Victrola.

Apparently, this Verd's Aria duet was a big hit.

Scotti’s voice is so simliar to caruso hard to decipher who’s singing. ( my guess is that the first tennor is Scotti ) Beautiful harmonisation between the two. Simple accompaniment by horns compliment the voices. Excellent control of voices at low level suspended chords by both.

Just before listened to this, quite interesting...

Sounds a bit like jazzy chamber music, but I like it - from Bandcamp...

Caribou  -  Our Love

(2014)  CD

+1 - love the way the first track builds and envelops the listener.  First played this on my newly acquired Muso last Xmas.

Had this in my river wish list for a long time - first play now via Tidal.  Interesting.

The Stray Birds - Best Medicine

(2014)   CD

I haven't listen to this album much, but I should.  It gets better with every listen.  I should check out their other albums as well.  Good Folk/Bluegrass/Americana elements.  Good album.

The Honey Dewdrops - silver linings

(2012)   CD

First listen.  In the folk genre.  Husband & wife duo.  Happened across this album.  Very good impression on first go round.  Looking forward to listening to it further.

Good recommendation - thanks - hadn't heard this before.  Sounding really nice via Tidal - kind of Gillian Welch-ish with a fuller sound.

Typical and very good guitar work from RT with nice bluesy vocals by James Dewar.

Just finished:   Annalisa Tornfelt  - The Number 8

(2015)  CD          Lead singer from Black Prairie, first solo record.  Very good.  Thanks to JeffA for pointing this album out.

Now:   First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar

(2012)  CD

Haven't listened to this in a while.  Prompted by watching some videos on YouTube.  Covers of Paul Simon, Patti Smith, The Kinks, and even Black Sabbath (War Pigs).  They played 'Emmylou' at a Polar Music Prize ceremony for Emmylou Harris.  Worth a listen/view.
