Haven't listened to this in a  while and it's an excellent album. Pity she has not released more solo material.

Downloaded a few years ago from the Naim Jazz label and rarely listened to. I should play it more as its really rather good, not too "jazzy".

+1

Bought the cd after listening to the the title track and the rest of the album does  not disappoint.

Same here Tony, I just love Beth's vocal style.  I played the first Portishead album continuously for days when it was first released.

This box set arrived today.  Only ordered on Tuesday evening.  I'm currently playing Volume 1 - Love Songs.  The quality of the reproduction is superb and the set lives up to its name "Close-Up" as Suzanne seems to be just a few feet from me!  If the rest of the set is as good as this I shall be delighted.  Only niggle is that the box-set itself, while of good quality, is considerably bigger than a CD which means it won't fit the compartments in my CD rack.  But that's a minor thing.  So a big thank you is due to HH for recommending the Close-Up albums.

Now that looks tasty. Enjoy!

I wasn't aware that the Close Up series was available on vinyl individually, I think those four albums will be next on my purchase list.

I've seen Suzanne live a couple of times, once last year on her UK tour and once in the acoustic tent at Glasto, great performances both of them.

Mine is the CD set but Amazon seem to have the individual albums on vinyl, albeit more expensive (as vinyl usually is it seems).  I must look out for one of her concerts. I'm sure she's worth seeing live.

Karajan's Ring never left the shadow cast by Solti, but they are different enough in concept and execution, and Karajan's singers are surely superior when it comes to vocal beauty.

Try to catch one of her concerts, they are pretty special.

Vinyl never has been cheap.  When I started working and buying LPs with my hard earned cash they cost around £1.50 (£1/10 shillings) each, and a pint of lager in a pub (the other constant in my weekly spending at the time!) was 12.5p (two shillings and six pence), so you could get 12 pints of lager for the cost of one LP.

12 pints of lager, at what - a least £2.50 today in pubs (? guessing as I don't drink anymore) - is around £30.  So relative to the cost of a pint of lager, LPs are a bit cheaper today than they were in the late 60s.

Ex-Crusaders Wilton Felder's 2nd solo album released in '80.

Trouble is it sounds like the Crusaders but not as good.

The vinyl versions of each of these albums were superb. Is there a vinyl box set now as well?

Starting late with the music tonight.

Haim,

He'll be coming around to the Orchestra Hall next season again.

I sure hope I get to see him play. His last visit was just tremendous playing Schumann and  Chopin pieces.

My favourite Queen of the Nite does Strauss tunes. I admire her polished and highly skilful singing. Thielemann's orchestration, OTOH, I am not sure. For some reasons he decided to pull out a fiddle player like a cheap perfume or for an extra schmaltz. I rather much preferred Abbado's subtler discreet handling. ( albeit they were Schubert tunes )

Many of Strauss tunes are plenty sweet enough why add more sugar?

Bruce Springsteen. Born In The U.S.A. On vinyl from 1984. I like this more these days than I did upon its release and Bob Ludwig's mastering is always pleasant to my ears.
