Ashkenazy's early 70s recordings of the Rach concertos with André Previn and the LSO. I love the authority of the later recordings with Haitink, but these, on the whole leaner and edgier, performances are great, too. Compared to the CD issue, the February 2014 high-res remastering is a notable improvement on the not-too-impressive CD quality, worth the upgrade if you enjoy this recording.

Hartford, May 28, 1977.  Streaming via Deezer Elite...

Such a great show!  Had seen the Dead play this same material (plus a bunch more) a couple of weeks earlier at Chicago's Auditorium Theatre (May 12-13, 1977).  We had great seats - front row center in the first balcony. The acoustics (and the aromas ) were amazing. Oh how the memories come flooding back!

Elvis Presley. The Ultimate Elvis Party Album. On CD from 2014. I wonder what Elvis would think of the five "viva mix" tracks on this disc. I think they're fun, but the other ten tracks are standard mixes and give an incongruous feeling to the overall sound of the album.

Richter's Schubert Piano Sonata D845.

He keeps showing different moods every corner he turns and probably more showy large scale dynamics that impresses. This is a similar presentation to Paul Lewis where they are on a concert mode.

I think I like Richer's later Schubert work better where he's more inwards.
