Shadow Circus ~ Whispers and Screams (2009)
It's turning into an evening of discovering new bands and albums for me. Half way through and yes this is definitely progressive rock music. Thanks for flagging up this band solwisesteve.
Suzanne Vega
"Close-Up, Volume 2: Love Songs" (2010) MP3
Jazzwax Records 180g vinyl: I really struggle with this, I have listened to many versions and like this one least. It just doesn't seem to capture the moment in the way that some others do. What is the (affordable) difinitive?
Because it is ace.
Giving this another listen. My favourite VM album.

I'm not surprised you are struggling. Where did you get that from? If it had the right cover it would be a good start.
I don't know about vinyl but a Columbia Legacy CD copy shouldn't cost more than a few pounds. Anything more is just a rip-off IMHO.

PS I've just looked on that South American river shopping site £24.40 ?!? Someone saw you coming I'm afraid.

IQ ~ The Road of Bones (2014)
Side one of their latest (2 CD) album. The British prog' rockers continue to impress with this fine album which has now been added to my shopping basket.
That's a very cool album cover

Shadow Circus ~ On A Dark And Stormy Night (2013)
Liking the album art but struggling to get on with the content so far.

Richard, what do you consider affordable?
graham.
The new Music Matters reissue is excellent, as Graham can attest to but decent quality affordable '70s and '80s Blue Note LPs are easy to find.

Had a look on the MM website, but can't see KoB. on either 45 or 33. Maybe a Blue Note reissue is a good starting point. Sorry to all for the hijack, just frustration at getting this one wrong.
Van Morrison
"Born To Sing: No Plan B" (2012) MP3
Some Tori Amos for a cold and snowy evening. Me And A Gun is particularly dark.

On a more positive note I found this on-line which in fact mentions Jazz Wax Records, not very favourably I would add. It seems to be a pretty good guide to vinyl buying, especially out of copyright re-issues:

It's on CBS/Sony, not Blue Note. It was reissued by Classic Records and that version is very good but now long gone for new purchase. There has been a Music on Vinyl release which I believe is still available. I don't have personal experience of that - their pressings are of good quality, but it won't be all analogue. Otherwise you can probably track down a second hand copy from the past in good condition and at a reasonable price, provided you don't go for first pressings.
Oops you are right. I misread it thinking it was Somethin' Else. AKA Kind of Blue II.

Yes, I've got the Classic LP, and it's very good.
Without highjacking the thread, the problem I have with MM is the postage:$28/£18 for P&P is a bit stiff when I can get original albums from across the pond delivered to my front door for £1.26!
Maybe it's just me.

Tony, looking at the tracking list for my recent MM delivery, it travelled half way round the US, came to London, went back to the US(?) and came to London again before arriving here 3 days later. I don't think they could do that for £1.26

I told you it was me. I frequently buy original albums and the P&P is 1.26. If you buy an album from MM for $34.00 and pay $28 for P&P, its a bit of a rip off. Back to original thread...
Nice album. Of my two CD copies, the German pressing is silly better than the supposedly identical UK one.
DB,
Magnificent, it's a pity she died so young...
