I've long been a Mary Black fan and have (I think) all of her studio albums.  There isn't one I don't like but No Frontiers has remained my favourite for many a year.

My favourite too, and coincidentally it's just been on the turntable! Must say, Stories From The Steeples runs it a very close second IMO.

Yes, Tony. I would agree with that. Mountains to the Sea and Walking With My Love are especially lovely songs from that album.

This will never go down as one of Floyd's classics but it is growing on me. In other words, I'm not as bored as I was the first time I listened to it

All things Cale are great!!

Hakil/Markevitch's Mozart Piano Concerto No.24.

2001 Phillips 50 reissue CD sounds great. I assume it has been remastered.

Markevitch gets the big swing as well as extracting smallest details out of the music. Big and luxurious presentation yet Haskil provides excellent micro details and dynamics to give the score a highly personal and intimate touch.

In spite polished and well done somewhat lacking involvement.

Now this is what you call a "Power Trio"

Elton John. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973). On CD from 1983. I think this is the oldest rock CD I own, 32-years-old and the discs still appear to be in new condition.

It's interesting to look at the progression through time of the dynamic range for subsequent issues of this CD. The 1984 average DR is 13, in 1995 it's 9, the 30th Anniversary 24/96 DVD in 2003 is 8, and the 40th Anniversary issue from 2014 is 7; nearly half the DR of what the original had.

Conductor Walter Süskind gets around!

This time, he's partnered up with Glenn Gould for the Mozart Piano Concerto No.24. As his earlier set with Schnabel, the orchestra direction is Beethoven like. Gould's Mozart is not so much about elegance and flow of things but more about linearity and structure of the music. Certainly this is less of a downer but coherent and rhythmic. I love his cadenza, too. This is a very different rendition from more romantic and frail Haskil set.

Brandi Carlile. The Story. On CD from 2007. Warm sounding and emotional music.

Mozart Piano Concerto No.24.

Perahia's orchestral direction isn’t bold as Susskind but love sensibility he brings to the table. Piano goes in and out of shadows and light. It’s slighlty more optimistic with oboe and winds. Gentle and thoughtful interpretation. Piano finally gets a little defiant in the final movement but he’s still maintainig Mozartian fluidity.

Love his own 1st movement cadenza, too.

No.24 is where Mozart's piano concerto gets more interesting. Starts out like a Batman theme full of darker ominous shadings added to sunny lightweight salon music. More multi dimentional. I could certainly see Viennese audience went wtf? on Mozart at the premier.

It's your credit card Tony!

(i don't sell records on discogs - hope Richard do not wipe it out.

I got totally sick of buying on discogs.... Every 'as new' album I purchased was totally crap! I went though a phase and purchased half a dozen LPs over the space of a few months. Everyone of them went in the bin! :-(
