Is on Jools Hollands Hootennanny(is that too many n's?) tonight
Unfortunately so is Jules Holland!
Sky box to set methinks.
I did record all of Jules' last series , mind you I only watched/listened to about 1/2 an hour of it. The show gets worse series by series IMO.

+1 Jules has total lost the musical plot...
Not one of the best line ups for this programme. Boz Scaggs and Wilco Johnson are the only standouts for me.
Agree in general that this show has slowly gone downhill over the years but thought the appearance of the legend that is Wilko Johnson was worth a mention not least because of the trials and tribulations the fellah has been through these past months.
Incredible that he is back performing!
Happy New Year!
I agree that the show has gone down hill as Jools is just too predictable and his non music guests are the same old same olds with nothing relevant to say!
But the bits that I saw that I rated were:
Richard
I thought the show got off to a great start with Joss Stone: she really put a marker down with her performance. Wilco Johnson was also great and William Bell was a class act.
I wasn't impressed with Paloma Faith and was disappointed with Ed Sheeran's material i.e. a cover song (Jammin') and what sounded like a knock-off of the Doobie Brothers (Sing/Long Train Runnin'). Also, I'm not sure whether he was playing the guitar live as it seemed to carry on when he wasn't strumming it.

Thought Paloma Faith was trying too hard.
Can't get along with Ellie Goulding at all,
To be fair I think Ed Sheeran was using a loop which caused that effect, he also had a 'shout' thing going that he obviously wasn't doing It seems strange that he had a board of pedals for his 'limited' guitar playing whereas Wilko was doing his usual lead/rhythm thing with nothing other than his trusty telecaster.
Add to that whenever I see Ed Sheeran I just want to shave him, head, neck and face including eyebrows.( call me irrational, see if I care!)
Other than that and all that luvvy stuff with t'audience, the show was much better than expected.
Joss Stone, William Bell, Boz Scaggs, Wilko, Paolo Nutini, Hayseed Dixie great stuff
I thought for a guy like Ed Sheeran (ie white & middle class) to take on a song like Jammin' and the brickbats that would very likely entail was pretty brave and I thought he made a decent fist of it really.
As for Jools he's been doing the same thing too long and when you do that you become a) boring or b) a parody of your earlier self (or the public's memory thereof). Mind you, given the general paucity of BBC and ITV's programming over Christmas it's hardly surprising nobody's gone to the trouble of inventing something new and different. He contributed some nice piano in the part of the show I watched and he's getting Paloma Faith and Wilko Johnson on the same show, that's a pretty broad musical church and streets ahead of anything else on the mainstream channels.
Maybe he needs to hand on the presenting and stick to the ivories.
Olly
I think he should stick to introducing the music, playing with the artists and cut out the embarrassing chat with so called celebs in the audience who seem to know nothing about the artists or music overall.
Oterwise, i agree the music mix is good.

Great to see Wilko Johnson, I read somewhere that he has now been given the all clear, lets hope so. I have been enjoying Going Back Home LP with Roger Daltrey and my Feelgood Lp's.
