EU energy efficiency regulations

Have just read this article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-30643357 regarding appliance energy efficiency.

Naim equipment sounds best when left permanently powered up.  If regulations force manufacturers to include a standby/power save mode, I wonder what this will do to Naim equipment design?

Also made me wonder whether rules exist today that have to be adhered to that already have a detrimental effect on SQ?

I was in a class about waste, energy ecology etc.  Teacher was adamant that everything not used should be turned off and unplugged.  Macs were pretty new and they had a sleep mode, big discussion on electrical surges. I said we should have a chart of what equipment uses to make a useful decision, fans better than central air, stereos are  less than TVs tho I don't know the technical ratings. That was all 20 years ago and flat screens weren't out.  I've taken advantage of rebates on Energy Star appliances and even got a fridge free for low income.

The big picture  where you save money and environment is power stations, municipal use, and ridiculous old regulations.  I'm remodeling a place in Palm Sp and all my lights are LED, the electrician is going to put them on dimmers when the painting is finished.  Says many people have an objection that is unfounded and they really are much more efficient and no heat, yet I heard many people with crazy objections.  But personally when I'm at home I navigate under very low lights or none at all. I hate going in a room and switch is full bright.  Maybe I'm part vampire/werewolf.

I don't use much light either - I think I have mushroom DNA somewhere in my lineage.

I am a cheapskate so I save where I can on utilities, but my Naim gear remains powered up 24/7.
